Skye
Skye, the narrator of Table by the Trashcan, was kind of the invisible girl when she wasn’t protesting of course. She got through high school by using her dry and sarcastic humor to hide herself. She wrote for the school newspaper and often used it to spread her ideas about the environment and animal rights. She and her sister Clarissa were very close until she began dating her crush Louis. After high school she went to NYU with Louis and remained friends. In junior year he began dating her roommate Heather. After attending NYU and Columbia Journalism School she started working at the New York Times doing obituaries. After her editor discovered her flare for the dramatic she started writing wedding announcements. On the side she worked as Louis’s assistant due to the fact that she made no money writing wedding announcements. Clarissa
Skye’s sister Clarissa was the typical smart girl. She knew everything and wanted everyone to know she did but not in an arrogant way. She was loved by all and never without a smile. She was the most real person ever and was always there to help Skye with her environmental crusading as long as there was no way she could get in trouble. Clarissa attended University of Cincinnati after high school where she met Brian and began dating him. Fanta/Jennifer
Fanta was quiet, conservative, and studious. She spent all of her time studying and obsessing over anime and Japan. She never had a boyfriend and never went on a date. She cared about her friends more than anyone in the world and never thought she’d ever be without them. After high school Fanta went to the University of Central Florida and lived in an off-campus apartment with Poppy. After graduation she moved to Japan with Spices. There she met Hiroshi. Spices/Allison
Skye’s craziest friend Spices was hyper-active and childish despite her intelligence. She obsessed over everything including Anime and random boys who looked like cartoon characters and wrote fantasy/sci-fi stories. She never sat still and never stopped writing. She attended Oxford after high school. She moved to Japan and began writing her first novel. When she was done she moved back to England and started dating her editor. Louis
Skye’s crush Louis was the football star. He had many different groups of friends and tended to mold into whoever he was with at the moment. During high school Skye foolishly thought it was flexibility but later realized it was just something he used to cover-up the fact that he didn’t have a personality of his own. Despite his popularity he spent most of his time at the Table by the Trashcan because he had known them forever. Louis studied business at NYU after high school and dated Heather. Missy/Melissa
Spices’s best friend Missy was quiet and dark. She wrote dark vampire romances and loved Anime. She loved her friends but rarely showed it in anyway. She was often misinterpreted as being depressed but was really just annoyed with the way the world worked. She went to Oxford with Spices after high school. She wrote her first novel while still in school. She met George senior year and moved in with him after college. Sessaree
Sess was the stupid one. In a group of very smart and studious people she stood out as the one who didn’t understand anything. She loved being the dumb girl and often acted dumber than she was. She didn’t care about school but liked going because she got to see her friends. She went to Michigan State University and majored in secondary education after graduating from the Table by the Trashcan. Poppy
Skye’s best friend Poppy was a close-minded Christian girl who often clashed with Skye over political views. However, she was the only one who ever understood her crush on Louis even though she personally couldn’t stand him. She cared about animals and the environment like Skye and helped as much as she could. After high school she stayed home and went to the University of Central Florida.
