Lamenting the Loss of Originality

Okay, after God knows how long, I've decided to clean up this profile. It was a mess. Right now, it's kind of in a Limbo stage because that's how I feel about fictionpress at the moment. I discovered fictionpress first, so maybe my expectations were lower, but then I went over to fanfiction and... well... they have a substantial number of higher quality stories. I repeat, a substantial number. Without sounding like a stuck-up bitch, because Lord knows I can't write, the majority of this site is just cliched drivel. After reading the same exact story with the same exact author insert/Mary Sue characters, I'm about ready to give up on this site. It's frustrating because while there are stories that get the acclaim they deserve (think Myrika), others that actually have original characters with a PLOT (yes, I said it: PLOT) outside of the author getting their main girl (which they live through vicariously, by the way) with their dream guy -- not the main character's, but the author's -- get short-changed. (And if you can make sense of that last sentence, congrats to you).

I mean, if I see one more transvestite story where the girl goes to an all-boys school, I'm going to scream. Yes, it can be done, but the people doing it are writing those stories because the see that the plot has been done and has been successful, and they want that success for themselves. They aren't creating original stories anymore, and that's what this whole damn site is supposed to be about. I mean, Jesus! Fanfiction has more original characters with more original plot than a good ninety-five percent of this shit.

Not that I think anybody will read this, but, by some chance of fate if someone does happen to read this and thinks, "Dear God, what a cynical bitch," I'd be extremely thankful if you could recommend a story for this cynical bitch to read that isn't trite and cliched. If you could PM me with story title or author name, I'll read it, and, if it's good (Hell, if it's even decent) I'll gladly put my foot in my mouth and apologize.

Okay, I don't have anything else to say.

Later,
Ryn
