Writing Love on her Arms:
This is inspired wholly by TWLOHA. It portrays struggles, victories, and understanding of self-injury for the most part.
Canvas (of Scars):
This song was inspired by my own journey. I looked down and it just seemed like an abstract painting. One particular line, "One thousand words painted upon her canvas" was inspired by the saying, "a picture is worth a thousand words" and I figured the scars were worth at least that much. It's a song about stories, about a longing to finish it (ie stop self-injurying) and for the story to never be known to other.
Everyone's Got Their Scars:
The song is actually three very different stories. The first is a girl named Kerri. She's a skateboarder and her scars are from accidents while trying to improve her trade. The second is a boy named Micheal. Micheal is abused at home, so he makes up stories as to why he has all these new injuries so his friends won't find out. My favorite line from his story is "Just a wish for rescue in his prayers." Lastly is the girl Jenny who is a cutter. No one sees her scars, but it doesn't mean there isn't a story. The point of this song is we are all scarred and we all have stories.
Who Are You?:
It's a story about finding out the truth. It's discovering your friend/sibling/parent/role model is not the person you thought they were. It's discovering that beneath all the smiles and beauty is this hurt that you could not see. "And I only wish this song,
Was as strong as her" is my favorite line because it does take strength to hide the pain.
