Author has written 4 stories for Sci-Fi, and Love.

Hi! My name is Sara King. I'm an Alaskan writer who specializes in Science Fiction. I like dirt, rain, fish, dogs, and just about anything that has to do with the outdoors. I spend most of the summer writing out in the boonies (4 hours from civilization by boat, 1 hour by plane), along the Yentna River. The bugs are hellacious, the bears raid the generator house at night, and showers are a commodity. There's no roads, no stores, nothing to distract me from writing except fishing. (Lots and lots of fishing ;)

I am a 2008 graduate of the Odyssey Writing Workshop and am an active member of the Codex Writers' Group.

My work has appeared in Apex Science Fiction and Horror # 11, Apex Online, Feb. 2008, Blood Blade and Thruster Magazine #3, Aberrant Dreams Jan. 2008 Issue, Shroud Magazine Issue 4 July/Aug, and Mercury Magazine (Israel). I also have stories upcoming in Cemetery Dance and Interzone.

My stories have taken two Honorable Mentions and a Semi-Finalist in the Writers of the Future Contest. I am an editor for the semi-pro magazine Aberrant Dreams and my novel-length writing is represented by Donald Maass of New York.

Feel free to email me at thundress@hotmail.com, even if it's just to ask about if I live in an Igloo (Which I don't--it's a little ice-cave a polar bear thoughtfully dug into a snowbank about thirty years ago.). Seriously, though, I love chatting about writing, so I'll respond to everyone who sends me a message. And, if you're kind enough to tell me what you think in a review, I'll gladly return the favor.

I've been writing religiously since I was four. I love to write. Period. I missed a third of High School because I stayed at home writing. I have 8 completed manuscripts under my belt and am working on my ninth. I'm still working on my website ( http://www.kingfiction.com/" target="new" http://www.kingfiction.com ), but on it you can find sample chapters from other stories, a bio, and some great pictures of Alaska. I'm adding more pics every day. The website forum is up and working now, so if you have any questions or comments you can post them there, or you could post them on the fictionpress forum at http://www.fictionpress.com/f/540728/. Gamers is completely finished--123k words--and if anyone is interested I'd love to put more online. I also have 4 other manuscripts that I'm proud of--check out my website and let me know if any of them stike your fancy. I'll be glad to share them with you :)

I'm currently working on the After Earth series. I have books 1, 3, and 4 finished. 1 and 3 are stand-alones, but book 4 flows best with a little bit of background. I'm psyching myself up to start book 2, partly because I'm having troubles envisioning the plot and partly because once I start a project, it eats up all my time and leaves me a hollow shell to the world until it's finished.

A few facts about me: I'm 26. I'm married to a former Marine. I had to live in California for 5 years (shudder) because the military does not have a Marine Corps base in Alaska (bastards). Writing-wise, I have written about 1.2 million words of manuscript fiction. My best day of writing was 14,483 words. My worst day was -20k words. My daily average is about 7k. I finished the rough draft of Forgotten in 1 month, but Lord of the Hunt took me 2 years and it's utter crap (I finally just threw it away). I like to listen to Enya or Loreena McKennit while I write because the songs can be seen two ways--either they sound magical and they help me add creativity to my stories or they sound sad and help me kill my characters off (which just tickles me pink). I am good with tension and dialogue, but suck at worldbuilding and detail.

Oh, and I love gummi bears.

Thanks for reading!

-Sara King
