Allie Finkle's Rules For Girls - moving day.
Okay, well. I said before I was going to review - and reccomend, some books.
This one? Yeah. I totally reccomend it. Okay, so it's a kid's book. So what? It's Brilliant -- and brought to you by the lovely, Meg Cabot.
I would have loved this book when I was little, and I love it now. Oh, how it brings me back. Allie, essentially, is a lot like me when I was a kid -- animal obsessed, semi-materialistic (i.e. I cried and cried when one of my best friends stole my barbie doll, and fed it to her dog 'accidentally'. Yeah, right), and annoyed by selfish little brats. My best friends of the time (they've grown up now, I think) were horrible to me -- just like Allie's were.
Oh yeah, Allie knew what she was talking about in that book. She was made to play games she didn't like (I liked the games, but, like Allie, I had to play all the least liked characters. When we played Saddle Club, I was Carol - even though, Carol is perfectly nice, Stevie was my favourite), when she was fighting with her friend's they'd float around near her, saying nasty comments. Much like my friend's did, and even when they were my friends, did (whenever an old lady walked past, they'd go "HEY AMY, THERE'S YOUR GRANDMA!", it annoyed me to no end!).
Allie Finkle has to move in this book (I never had to move, never have moved in my life) but atleast she finds some new friends, who play games she likes. But the guy next door says the house is haunted, and Allie think's there is something in the attic that will crawl out and get her - the house is totally freaky! Even though she wants a cat, and even though there's a Dairy Queen they can walk up to right after tea -- she really doesn't want to live in a haunted house. Who would, right? Especially when you have a nice pink room you're perfectly happy with!
Allie spends the rest of the book, dealing with old friends, making new ones - and trying her best to keep her parents from moving! She also saves a turtle from getting turned into soup, but the turtle - not very appreciative - snaps at her when she does this. But this brave little girl fights on!
Read it. Now. You're totally missing out if you don't - because it captures life as a kid perfectly. Atleast, it sure captures mine!
