The Civil War is about to break the nation in two, Sophie has to say goodbye to her brother Nate, and best friend Eli as they leave for battle. Before they do, both Sophie and Eli realize deeper feelings for each other, but are unable to express them. Sophie volunteers with the Union Volunteer Refreshment Saloon while her brother and Eli fight against the Southerners. Will Eli survive the war? Will their secret love?

The following day, he begs her to stop whatever she’s doing, and when she refuses, he offers to help in the only way he can, by marrying her. Their vows, meant to deceive the Nazi’s, enable them to continue their work. But as Klara and Jack play "house" who is really being deceived?
