| Smudge Rat |
Author has written 18 stories for Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Life, Humor, Fable, General, and General. I'm Smudge and I write science fiction and fantasy. The stuff you'll find on here is mostly ideas I've spent some time thinking about but know I'm too lazy to develop into longer stories. I have a lot of ideas but I often end up abandoning stories I'm working on because I get bored of them; this way I can explore a lot of ideas and at the very least get them down in their basic form as short stories. Imagine putting Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman into a blender, then travelling back in time and adding Douglas Adams when he was still alive. That's sort of what I aspire to be like (not a murderer of random authors, I'm talking about the thick gloop of genius you'd end up with). Disclaimer: I don't mean to say that I am a gloop of genius. I just aspire to be one. Here are some concepts I'm interested in and you may expect to see in my fiction: Gender and sexuality (not gender and sexuality issues, those are boring. What I want to do is make gender and sexuality irrelevant. And I like to mess with the gender of other peoples characters, but that comes under fanfiction.) Doppelgangers, mirror images and alternate universes (this can also be tied in with my first interest - what if one of your genes was different and you happened to be the other gender? How would this make you different?) Transformation (from one sex to another, from human to animal and vice versa - and some of my characters are half forms.) Re-writing fairy tales (and I like to mess around with Alice in Wonderland, changing the genders of all of the characters, reversing it so that the white rabbit follows Alice into our world, exploring the relationships between seemingly two-dimensional characters.) Hypothetical futures (what if? scenarios - see "They Came At Us With Dragons." I like to imagine how the human race would react to threats we thought were impossible) | |||||||||
