Hi there, Stranger,
Like I mentioned before, Katja de Wit is a pseudonym I chose rather randomly. I used to be Pandora de Wit, but changed the first name because Katja is a common abbreviation of my second name. In Dutch, at least. And, yes, I am Dutch, but I study English Language and Literature at University and much prefer English over my mother tongue.
Please note that I'm mainly writing to improve my technique and that I'm aware of the fact that some of my pieces (especially the older ones) need serious re-writing. I just don't have the time or, in some cases, the motivation to do so at the moment. I beg your pardon.
However, this doesn't mean I don't appreciate feedback, because I really do. Especially when my writing style/technique is concerned - if you don't like my subject matter, I advise you to simply stay away from my writing. =)
Freaky fact: when I Googled my pen name, it turned out someone in my hometown (population of 17.000) is actually called Katja de Wit. I swear I never heard of this person before I chose this pen name, and, quite frankly, I was a little weirded out by my discovery. Hmm, maybe I should change my name back to Pandora? I've gotten really attached to this name, though.
Some quotes that keep me inspired: just loose snippets of narrative, lyrics and strange things my teachers and friends say.
"Death walks like Mr Vandemar." Neil Gaiman 'Neverwhere'
"This is the life, you see; the devil tips his hat to me." Voltaire (not the original) 'When you're evil'
"I do not like thee Dr. Fell, the reason why I cannot tell." Tom Brown 'Nursery rhyme'
"Right in the middle of here." Dr Anita Raghunath
"I scare birds for a hobby." Dr Diederik Oostdijk
"I hate turtles, yes I do, for the bible tells me to." My very interesting friend Cherry
"Suffer smartingly in the fires of abstinence." Robert Louis Stevenson 'The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde'
"The world is changed because you are made of ivory and gold. The curves of your lips re-write history." Oscar Wilde 'The Picture of Dorian Gray', obviously. I have my reasons.
"I'm more of a man than you'll ever be, and more of a woman than you'll ever have." The unmistakable Mr Brian Molko
"We dance round in a ring and suppose, but the Secret sits in the middle and knows." Robert Frost 'The Secret Sits'
One more thing you need to know before continuing: Almost none of my work is autobiographical unless explicitly stated, so please don't ask me if I'm OK. Kthnx.
Eagerly awaiting your con-crit,
Katja
