"Writing is the only thing that, when I do it, I don't feel I should be doing something else." Gloria Steinem
There is a pleasure sure
In being mad which none but madmen know.
~John Dryden, The Spanish Friar, 1681
hi everyone reading this :). my name is Schlotta Whaley, thats not my real name just my writing name. I never know what to say on these profile things.
So, lets just say writing is my passion. It isn't just a hobby, its what I plan on doing with my life. If some greater force took away my pen, paper, and laptop, and told me I was not allowed to ever write again, I don't think life would be worth living. It's my great passion, and like all great passions, it's intense. And also secret, except to you lovely people reading my profile, but you all are reading what Schlotta Whaley is saying, thereby not knowing who I really am.
Writing is like the air I breath. I need it to function. It takes me away from the world, to somewhere else. Maybe that sounds a little extreme, but if you know me, you'll see that is part of who I am. I tend too care to much, to feel too much and not be so good at showing it. Maybe that's why I hate dating:) Or maybe, its because all my free time I spend writing a novel, or trying to write a novel.
Writer's block is a horrible thing, but I think writers should feel lucky here. I mean, there isn't something like a cashier's block, I think writers are the only ones who get to use that as an excuse. But I guess all people who are doing something creative can be blocked. The best thing about writers block is when its over, and you get that flow of new ideas, and that rush just goes through you. That rush is better than any other high.
I have to admit, my best things aren't going to be posted up here. I have several projects I'm working on that won't ever reach cyberspace, just because I'm afraid it may hurt the chance of them being published. And because they are my babies, I hold them very dear to my heart, and I don't think they are quite ready for the world to see, until they are polished to perfection.
Speaking of writing, I do have an account on http://www.fanfiction.net , as freak.on.a.leash13. I know a lot of people hate fanfiction, but I think it can help you grow as a writer, it sort of gives that security that you are using someone elses characters. I think it helps build up confidence to be your own writer, to do your own thing. Not to mention the author who wrote must think its pretty sweet that someone would write fanfiction on their work. I mean, I would think it was pretty cool people liked something I wrote enough to write about it themselves.
please don't flame. i don't mean just me but anyone, everyone here is talented in her or his own way, and its just not nice to do to someone, i mean you wouldn't want it done to you right? Constructive critisicm is cool, but flaming is not.
I am not afriad to keep on living
I am not afriad to walk this world alone
Honey if you stay I'll be forgiven
Nothing you can stay can stop me going home
-Famous Last Words by My Chemical Romance, (Im so loving that song right now, love the whole cd)
I've decided to tell a little about my stories on here.
Zingo: this is a story of two sisters who created an imaginary world as kids, only to discover that its a real place. One sister is placed in a mental institution, and tells the other to go to that world to save her. The other sister ends up there, and finds out that her sister is split between both worlds, and trapped somewhere only the king can reach her. She makes a deal with the king to get the crown, a source of extreme power, and trade it for her sister. Only, the crown is guarded by the Zingo, a beast that no one has ever lived to tell of. As the journey goes on, she makes friends along the way, and discovers the king may want more than he is letting on. Its an fantasy/adventure story, with a strong family/friendship theme, and some very slight romance is added. It may or may not have a sequel once its finished, it all depends. This fic is my baby at the moment, my favorite thing to write.
Phantasm: this is another fantasy tale, that tackles the darker side of romance. A man makes a deal to save his daughter with the king of the shadow realm, and he has to pay by giving him his neice on her 16th birthday. Why exactly he wants her is a mystery to her, but once he has her, she starts to love him...eventually. This isn't one of those stories where happily ever after is easily obtained, it has to be fought for.
Red Moon: a retelling of "Little Red Riding Hood" Red is a werewolf slayer, and the wolf is a werewolf. It's hard to explain, but I like writing it, so maybe some of you will like reading it.
The Desolate: this one is sort of a story about friendship, family and romance. Its got all the typical teen drama, increased by family issues that plague the main characters. The main characters in this are fun to write, because they aren't typical protaginists. They are a bit dark, and well, desolate. This is full of love triangles, family secrets, unrequited loves, seduction and manipulation. I particulary like my protagonist in this story, because she's bad in the way we all want to be sometimes, but would never dare to, all the while keeping up the illusion of perfection.
