Hello, all!
I'd like to set one thing straight before I say anything else: despite my Fictionpress name (TomEnglish), I am a woman. I chose the name Tom for several reasons, one of which being my real name is also a male name. My parents, in a fit of uncommon whimsy, chose a distinctly masculine name for their little baby girl. Having been raised with a male name, it would feel odd to go around with a penname like "Suzie," "Lisa" or "Catherine." Makes sense, right?
As for me, narrative is my passion, be it found in novels, movies, songs, plays, short stories, poems, or even graphic novels. Here on Fictionpress I get to experiment with stories and unleash my inner absurdity. For me, writing is not only great artistic exercise, but it's cathartic. The annonymity of the Fictionpress system allows me to be as crazy and experimental as I want without the unpleasant side-effect of social suicide. I'm sure some of you out there can understand. :0)
Oh, and I'm trying desperately to avoid those cliche plotlines so overused (and yet surprisingly still popular) in some Fictionpress work. Not that an overused plot line can't become brilliant and intelligent in the words of a skillful author, but it's very difficult to pull off. I sometimes suspect some Fictionpress authors of using the narrative as a means to indulge personal fantasy rather than writing from a love of stories.
