Hello fictionpress.com!
I'm new to the site (although I am a member of a couple of similar ones), so it's taking me a little time to settle in, but I'm looking forward to getting to know some of you!!
Why I'm here:
I'm not going to lie: I'm here, first and foremost, looking for reviews of my work. I understand that that is why most people join a site like this, and so I will always strive to review the work submitted by those that have R&R'ed mine!
What I'm writing:
My novel in progress (NiP) at the moment is a book I have provisionally titled White Hawk. To my horror, it seems to have become increasingly epic as I have planned (in the broadest sense of the word!) for it. As it stands, I have some notes but a lot of it is in my head. I'm just starting to write chapter by chapter, and loving every minute of it! What's it about? It's quite difficult to say really! The core of it is a country (Madas), defending itself from invaders. Doesn't sound so original, I know! But there are plenty of sub-plots, plot twists, and a large cast so hopefully it's going to work!! My current goal is to have the first draft finished by the end of the year... we'll see!
I also write some short stories, but I have a bit of difficulty in defining things by genre and I can't really see where a lot of my work would place. I have written one or two Dark Fantasy shorts, and am currently working on a historical fantasy which I'm enjoying a lot too!! I'm sure I'll be posting some on this site!
What I like to read:
My tastes are pretty wide ranging, I think. I enjoy fantasy, but can sometimes get a bit overwhelmed with intense levels of magic; likewise with Sci-fi, heavy science doesn't really do it for me, I'm afraid! Historical fiction/fantasy goes down very nicely, as does a thriller, sometimes... actually, I'm going to stop there. Those are my core favourites really, but I'm likely to enjoy most stuff that is written well.
Now that you know a bit about me, feel free to get in touch with any questions etc! I'll try to update this when I've come to grips a bit more with the site!
Happy reading/writing!
Hume.
