FAQ: The Great Escape
~ Q: Are any characters in your story based on people you know, or are they just a combination of different personalities?
~A: wow, first FAQ question and it was a really hard one. Eden is based on myself, as mentioned in chapter 2. I don't really think her actual personality is based on mine, but her concept is. I'm viewed as a perfectionist, and I'm obsessive compulsive, everything has to be in it's place with me, and I hate being bad at something. She's like that, but she sits on the sidelines more than I do, I like to observe people like she does, but whenever something pops into my head, I must speak my mind immediately, or I feel like I'm going to explode. She's very good at predicting people and very good at exactly timing what she's going to say so that it has the most affect on a conversation. Our fatals difference is that she calculates and weighs everything before she does it, whereas I simply do it. Lucas is a combination of her personality, a very cynical view on life, and ingeniousness. He doesn't trust anything, doesn't believe in anything, doesn't depend on anything but himself. However, he doesn't have this whole outward "bad boy" persona, he's a genius, and he finds people predictable, and boring. He's not concerned with putting up a front for people because he knows how petty people are, and doesn't concern himself with what they think of him. He revels in the truth. Jacob's outward personality is definitely based on a few very, very distant guy acquaintances that play sports. No, I have guy friends that play sports, but they're all spoiled brats who don't really care. I've observed that for most guys who play sports, it's really a passion like writing is for me, and they're not really passionate about the sport, just about being the best in general. Jacob hates being told what to do and he can't keep his mouth shut. He's basically fairly obnoxious, but he hates that Lucas is the leader of the group. He hates that Lucas seems to be able to lead everybody effortlessly, where he has to struggle for attention. (That attention grubbing part of him is based on a hilariously inspiring friend of mine with a giant head of a hair and a really long name). Lucy is clinically depressed, and will do everything to fit in. She has no idea who she is, basically she is defined by the person she sees as her leader or role model, she tries to be like them. She is a rather ambiguous character, it's hard to know her when she doesn't even know herself. Mark is devoted to Lucy, he loves her. When Mark decides to love something, he loves it unconditionally. He has looked after his poor sister for years, he has done everything for her. I can't really reveal much because there is a huge back story on him that's rather essential to part of the plot. Sorry.
