Random fact about me: I'm random.

Anyone is welcome to review any of my works, and I aim to return the favour at all times.

A few of my favourite things:

Books: Oscar Wilde, Robert Browning, Pride and Prejudice, Memoirs of a Geisha, The Phantom of the Opera.

Films: Sex and the City, The Devil Wears Prada, Basic Instincts, Titanic, Atonement, Femme Fatale, Sydney White.

Music: Evanescence, Avril Lavigne, Within Temptation, LaFee, Amy Winehouse, Natasha Bedingfield. (Yeah I only listen to female vocalists, whatever.)

Poetry

Religion: Take My Life takes a religious approach to confronting death. Where'er in Thy Chord, though touches on self-injury, embraces life and the acceptance of it. Lean on Me is about my spiritual journey towards God, and Thank You describes my gratitude towards Him. I was inspired by a plane journey and came up with a religious metaphor which I expressed in No Rain in Heaven.

Life and Death: Die Another Day attempts to blur the boundary between life and death. Lithium represents the confusion within the lost ego, also on the verge of the supernatural. Insane Poem is an outlet of madness - I Swear is a series of angst poems like that, except it is rated for strong language. Behind Those Smiles is about the hypocrisy of life and how we've all got to put on a mask and fake a life. And if you'd ever been so obsessed with something that you had to give it up, you'd know what I mean by Remembrance Kills - you simply can't get rid of it, it always comes back.

Beauty: I wrote I Saw a Beautiful Emo Yesterday literally a day after I saw a beautiful emo who inspired the more cheerful part of my brain. Forgotten Shangri-La was written on a plane as we were flying over a land of stunning natural beauty. Golden Fields and Sapphire Sky is about beauty lost.

Love: Don't expect anything too romantic! The correct term for Sizzling Touch is probably frisson. Steward of My Heart shows some love, but mainly love for oneself. This Uncertainty is about using love as an urban entertainment. My Mortal is about allowing what is dead to die, and moving on.

I write in another language when I feel angsty and need an excuse to be straightforward - because, let's face it, my French and German can be nothing but. So here, Pas Paradis is in French and Ohne Herz German.

The Depressing Bit

School: Randa Miranda, rebel V mild - transformation of a single girl. Fallen Princess is about popularity and loneliness, in the sense that one is only popular when amongst one's friends. Fake Smiles is about what people can do to defend what they think is important, even if they're destroying something even more so. Stained Glasshearts is one of the few love-related stories I've written - not particularly good, but it has to be there.

Family: Twisted Love is a family tragedy involving childish revenge, love and guilt. Perfectionist Runaway consists of four very short chapters and tells the story of a child who is the sacrifice of her parents' perfectionism. The War is a family crisis as well as a personal crisis.

Life: Gucci Bags and Prada Shoes is about materialism, erotism, cynicism and being alone. Silence magnifies how the littlest problem in everyday life can change the personality of someone dramatically. Gone Wilde is another piece about transformation in personality, only this time it is unintentionally led by another person - it's based on someone I know. Red is rated for self-injury contents, but is really about the mind of a lost teen. Not For Your Eyes is a short piece with no story line, it jumps around all over the place, because that's what my thoughts did.

Shanghai

I've only been to Shanghai once, when I was 10 months old, so I don't know much about that city, but my mother who spent seven years there loves telling me about it, and as my obsessions grew, three of my stories ended up being set there. A Thought Away is about love, desire and money. The Consequences of Nothing is about how an arranged marriage has messed up the lives of two generations. Here, There, and in Between is about cultural identity, it was quite an experiment for me so I would love some feedback on it please!

Fun

How to Travel From England to America consists of three weird speeches I wrote for school. Remind Me Again Why I Tolerate School is a collection of laugh-out-loud conversations that I had or heard at school. Why Me? is pretty much a piece of chick-lit, so those who do not appreciate cheesiness will not find it amusing. The Conversation is short and weird, there's a punchline, so just read on, it'll only take about 30 seconds. Innocently Cool is pretty sweet - about childhood sweethearts.

The Lord is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father's God, and I will exalt him. Exodus 15:1-3
