Nightmare Chapter 4 - "Marking" - Released September 22!

So, what's there to be said about myself? Um... for starters:
Darlene. Crazy. Imaginative. Determined. Procrastinator. Random. Proud to be an American.

That's pretty much it. XD haha. I've been writing since I was in kindergarten, and loved every minute of unleashing my ideas onto a piece of paper ever since. I love to read too... So after many years of just reading here, I decided to put up some of my own pieces.

My inspiration is random. Evanescence provides me with a world of possibilities. If I've met you, you're probably the basis for a character in one of my stories. My dad is the best fan group ever. I'm a perfectionist - if it has my name on it, expect it to be pretty darn decent. I don't write crap just for the reviews. There's so much more, so just ask!

Peace, Love and Fried Chicken,
Darlene

9.22.08 - Colder temperatures are coming... more excuses to stay inside and write! Yay!

Darlene Doran is only a penname. Sorry. You stand about a snowball's chance in hell of ever knowing my real name. :)

Trivia about "Nightmare"

- Renee was intended to remain nameless. Once I decided that was impossible, her name was Aisling, which means "Dream." I found that to be a little random, so I named her "Renee," which I quite honestly, pulled out of a hat with a couple other ideas.

- Matt and James are both named for one person. I have a friend named Matthew James, so I thought it would be funny to have two characters both wildly different from this one friend. Don't ask.

- Nightmare was inspired from an actual dream I had. The actual dream was that I was trapped under water (when I tried to break through, it was like pushing against fiberglass) and was trying to warn a young woman about the man who was hunting her. She didn't believe she was being hunted until it was too late.

- I actually wrote chapter one with no outline and no intention of ever writing one. Then, I fell in love with my characters and decided to continue. I originally intended for five chapters just of nightmarish stuff, and then I really went into hyperdrive, and I'm really pleased with what's going to happen.

- I've actually written the sequel first. It was originally a drabble novel but I realized the similarities in characters. So, I'm reworking that seventh grade piece of crap to fit as a Nightmare sequel, if readers so desire. It'll be a huge amount of editing, though.

My Stories:

Nightmare: In-Progress. Chapter 4 published September 22. Renee Beillmann is your typical high school girl. Studies hard, has a passion for acting, still can't parallel park (despite having her license), and has a wild crush on Matt Wilson. What happens when a horrifying nightmare starts to become a living reality in her life? Can Matt save her? Does somebody need to save Matt? And how serious was James Arbuckle when he said he wouldn't let anything happen to Renee if he could help it?
(Romance/Supernatural)

Phoenix Rising: On hiatus. Written by students of Keystone National High School. Leo Bravinsky, Maxamis Slay, Roxana Bismarck and Lizzie Harper... four Phoenix Rising top operatives, and all polar opposites. Sent on a "typical" reconnaisance mission to a base in Russia in 2037, one thing after another doesn't go according to plan. Do opposites really attract? Can this team pull together to defeat the Axis powers, or will all four end up sacrificed in this Nazi trap?
(Action/Adventure)

Life and Times of a Britney Spears Impersonator: Outlining. Kevin McAfee is a college drop-out, having flunked his courses at the University of Arizona in computer programming. Trying to make ends meet, he decides to do the impossible for his career: impersonate pop princess Britney Spears. Tosha started it all, and now she doesn't know how to get Kevin out of this mess! He swears he's straight, but he's not prepared to deal with the fall-out of his decision. Join Kevin and Tosha on this roller coaster ride of twenty-something drama, pop music and Starbucks coffee.
(Humor/Romance)

The Once and Future Queen: The Adare Prophecy: Outlining. Princess Aloria was born the night the beloved King Gabriel was murdered by the Ormeh. His widow, Queen Rosaline, was banished after being falsely accused of adultery and the murder of her husband. Raised by her tyrannical uncle, Aloria ran for her life at seventeen when her Uncle Alexander began plans to eradicate the remnants of the royal family. But, Aloria carries a secret. According to the Adare Prophecy, she is the reincarnation of the first Queen of Garamond, Queen Lydia the Wise. She must take her rightful throne to ensure 100 years of peace for Garamond. Even with the help of the dashing Page Dimitri, knight-in-training, and the erotic Seer Arthur, it's not going to be easy.
