Author has written 18 stories for Supernatural, Fantasy, Romance, Life, Humor, Young Adult, Haiku, Love, Fantasy, and General. The keys tap, breaking a silence that is otherwise complete. Your hands move over the letters, pressing harder than they should have to because the keyboard is old. It's bitingly cold; your fingers are red and you know that your hands will hurt when later you step under the hot shower. The old, dusty lamp does little to illuminate the room and the junk filling it beyond the circle of lightened desk; the rest of the world doesn't matter anyway. You're not there anymore. Eyes tracing the shape of a letter, the curve of a c, the dip of a u, the world is a mere word on the printed page. What time is it? You couldn't say. You'll regret it tomorrow when you have to drag yourself out of bed, but for now, daylight and mundane life is faint and far away, and the adventure flowing from your fingertips is a welcome substitute for the cold, bitter, selfish world. Will this tale bring others happiness? Maybe. Sadness? You hope so. But all that is as faded, washed-out and unreal as the deadline you have to meet, the mail sitting on your desk. The only thing that is clearly, sharply in focus, almost painstakingly real, is the tap of the keys, breaking a silence that is otherwise complete. | |||||||||
