I'm Ariel. This isn't my real name, though it's one I use from time to time.
I'm female, seventeen years old, and enjoy horror in every sense: blood, gore, shivers up the spine, things that go bump in the night, etc., etc. I read a lot of Lovecraft, and I try to emulate his style: a believable but haunted character, often described in the first person, either goes mad or dies because of a sometimes supernatural twist at the end. Such stories may involve creatures and worlds beyond description, or things that can only be understood by dreamers or the denizens of an asylum. Plus, I firmly believe that colour/favour/neighbour/etc. should be spelled with a "u," american citizenship notwithstanding.
That's about it, really. My favourite colour is green, or red, or blue, or purple. Right now green, though, because my hair is green. I love both opera and metal, and so most of the music I listen to is symphonic metal (Kamelot, Therion). I spend far too much of my time playing Dungeons & Dragons, though my boyfriend spends more time on it than I do (and who says geeks don't get girls?). I love cats, but they generally hate me, I have a thing for really skinny people (though I'm not one myself: fairly average), and I usually remember upwards of three dreams a night because I've been writing them down for years. Some of my story material is drawn from dreams, though I've never had a nightmare so my horror pool in that respect is somewhat limited. Most of it is taken from those moments just before falling asleep, when I have my glasses off and the world is only visible as a faint haze through a cloud of red sparks. Or when I'm cooking, because I have nothing better to do than to sit and watch water boil.
Most of my creativity is used for visual arts, though... if I ever become famous someday, that would probably be why. Either that, or my paintings will get me locked away. Let me give an example of why: I'm not allowed to display them at school because of the detrimental effect they have on the younger students. This is a source of pride for me, though it may just be my grandiose sense of self-worth coming out. Or it's evidence of the fact that I read a lot of Lovecraft.
I also read comic books, and several of my stories draw inspiration from Batman. I'm still so in awe of Watchmen that it hasn't really led me to write anything yet, but that'll happen soon enough. DC comics pwns Marvel anyday.
Well, now I actually have run out of things to say. I'm completely open to suggestions as to what other random tidbits I should share.
Meow!
