Lily Matherson 17 year old student, who recently got emancipated from her now deceased Mother. Which ultimately left her to be the sole heir to her Fathers multimillionaire estate. After the scandal involving her Mother's suicide after a second failed marriage, Lily decided she was tired of the constant gossip and drama, so she transfers from the prestigious Spence Girls only School in the city to Hackley School in Tarrytown, NY. During her last year. There she meets new people and a certain Teacher who she tries to deny any kind attraction to. Lily is a very serious and studious girl. She has to be able to deal with the constant snobs that make up her world, so she is perceive as a cold hearted bitch. But only her family knows what she has gone through during her childhood, so they understand her need to distant herself from all drama that has been surrounding her. She feels most close to her Stepmother and feels a strong sense of responsibility towards her and her step siblings. After her Fathers short term battle with cancer three years ago, Lily has basically felt she was in a forty year old woman in a body of a seventeen year old. Her difficult past has forced her to grow up faster than anyone else.

David Grant Collins is a 28 year old History Teacher at Hackley school. His recent engagement break up has left him in a rut. He finds comfort in his career. When he first meets Lily, he sees someone that has been hurt but she shows to be made of thick skin. David cant help but to be intrigued with her and her attitude towards him. He finds it strange that she does not react like all the other female students he has, even though is a fresh change from the constant giggling and flirty students. He is a strong silent type, although he's not very emotional, (in fact, he's rather stoic)
