The Southern Republic (CA) = Before Corago attack, so before the story starts.

The Southern Republic is a civilization that formed from rival clans that had started out as nothing more then small settlements, which would later form into a nation spanning across the entire southern continent up to the Jaspen Mountains located at the base of the western continent. Over the past two decades the Southern Republic has seemed to lose power falling into the position of third most powerful nation behind the Northern Kingdom and Eastern Empire.

Antiquity:

No record prior to the year 487 (CA) has been recovered yet. The journal of a farmer shows how the nation was once just a landmass of scattered settlements unaware that other even existed. Historians estimate this to be the second oldest piece of recorded history only to a letter dated at 500 (CA) in the Northern Kingdom. What led to these villages forming or any sign of prior history is yet to be found and will most likely remain a mystery.

History:

Around the time of 450 (CA) small settlements were rapidly growing into towns. With the need for larger amounts of lands citizens ventured out for the first time leading to the realization of other clans. In 390 (CA) twelve major clans existed and sought absolute control of the land. It was at this time that Ocultus of the central clan emerged as a military genius helping over take rival clans. With the help of the Corago warriors Ocultus formed the Southern Hierachy. In 350 (CA) Ocultus ruled the nation as a tyrant only to be dethroned by his own military. What became of him no one knows for no death record exists. After renaming their nation into the Southern Republic the citizens chose to keep some credit to his name for stopping the clan wars and uniting a nation. In 16 (CA) arguments over who had control over the western trade routes erupted with the Northern Kingdom. In 15 (CA) a full-blown war started crushing the Republics economy. In 14 (CA) an agreement was reached though too late. Many citizens of the Southern economy saw their nation as a traitor and left for the Eastern Empire. Fourteen years later and the Republic still hasn’t completely recovered.

Government:

The Southern Republic is run in a republican government. Each citizen will elect a representative from his or her village from one of three parties. This man or woman will now have a seat in the congress. Whichever party has the most seats will have their leader act as Governor. This allows a fair balance of thoughts from different perspectives through the Southern congress. Congress is ran out of the Republic’s capitol Virides.

Military:

The Southern Republic has the third largest military and navy in the world. Basic infantry are called Murmillo. These soldiers wear gold colored helmets with a round shaped hat on the top. Soldiers were grouped in 60 to 120 soldiers called maniples. Thirty maniples in three lines with supporting troops made up a legion. Legion’s range from 4000 to 5000 men.

Culture:

Entertainment ranges from small board games in villages to the highly anticipated gladiatorial fights in Virides coliseum. Chariot races are also a high form of entertainment in the capitol city. Bets can be made here where the track will take ten percent of gold cubes won. Hunting is quite common in the rural parts of the Republic as is fishing.
