Greetings, beings of the planet earth.
Okay, so my intro's a little lame. But who can blame me? I spend half of my life throwing myself around on the ice and the other half stuck in the completely fictional world of my many stories. No wonder I'm so strange.
If that hasn't summed it up for you, I guess I can expand a little on this whole describing myself thing. My real name is Samantha (I usually go by Sam), and I'm 15. I'm originally Canadian, but I've lived in Australia since I was ten. I am a person of many obsessions, most of which you probably don't want to hear about. But I can tell you about some of them. (In no particular order)
First there's figure skating, my absolute passion. I train five times a week - plus an added bonus of off-ice training once a week. (Trust me, it may sound all innocent and harmless, but it's ABSOLUTE TORTURE!) For those of you who know a bit about skating, I can give you an idea of what level I'm at. I'm not exactly great - I did have my axel, but at the moment I've lost it. Although I have got my double salchow (except it's cheated). As for spins I'm working on my flying camel (god, that sounds strange, doesn't it?) and layback.
Then there's animals. I completely adore them. Tell me anything about kittens, frogs, elephants, platypuses, hamsters, you name it, and you've got me hooked. And yes, I'm the kind of person who'll rip your head off for stepping on a couple of ants. THEY'RE LIVING BEINGS, they have a right to live!
Another of my obsessions is PURPLE! Don't diss it. It's the greatest colour that ever walked the planet. And yes, it did walk.
Emmett Cullen is MINE!!
And yes, that does require the bold/italics/underline command. Anybody who tries to take him from me will suffer the consequences. You have been warned.
And of course there's writing! Don't even get me started on the reasons! Give me twenty minutes and I've completely lost myself to the keyboard. I'm probably more involved with my characters' lives than I am with my own. Writer's block can be a problem for me, but I'm not one to abandon a story (I'm still holding onto one that I came up with when I was eight, but the plot is sort of slipping now...). I've got about twelve stories on the go right now, including my fan fics. Whenever I'm bored of one, I move onto another one. It may not sound like a good technique, but it sure works for me.
As well as that (in terms of obsessions) there's about seven TV shows (including Home and Away, Heroes and How I Met Your Mother), Harry Potter, Twilight (my newest and strongest obsession), The Sims 2 (it's an addictive game), Zoo Tycoon (1 and 2), lasagne, Pirates of the Caribbean, Ice Tea, rubber ducks, and many, many more. Oh, and did I mention I have a collection of little frog figurines?
Anyway, enough about my obsessions, and more about...hmm... well, other stuff!
As well as writing I don't mind reading - I'm a strange person in this area, too. I don't read all that much, but if I find a good book like Harry Potter, I fall in love with it and can't put it down. However, if I've got a mediocre book, I'm quite happy to just abandon it and go do something else.
Ha. Funny that I said that. (I'm writing this paragraph much later than I wrote that one up there ) because in a whole summer, a lot has changed. Now, any time that I don't spend writing or skating I spend reading. I'm a reading freak. There's not much more to it.
As for some of my favourite books...
~Twilight (and all its sequels). Stephenie Meyer is one of the most talented authors I've ever come across. The Cullens are the coolest vampires in the whole world. And Emmett... I punched a werewolf in the face.
~Harry Potter (obviously) Who wouldn't be in love with it? (Not Harry, he's ugly. I mean the books.)
~A Great and Terrible Beauty (and Rebel Angels). Another amazingly indescribable series. I'm going to kill the Australian bookstores if they don't get The Sweet Far Thing in soon. Practically half the world has read it and yet somehow it's not out over here. I'm going to murder somebody in a minute.
~The Guardians of Time trilogy by Marianne Curley (The Named, The Dark and The Key). These books are amazing - I don't think they're amazingly popular, but they should be. They're about time-travel and prophecies and there's some cheesy romance which I'm a sucker for (sadly enough).
So you probably want to know about all my stories, right? Wrong. Most of them will probably bore you to death. But, if I ever become a published author, you may all be able to prove me wrong. At the moment I'm working on what should end up as a series of four books (the first one entitled Moonshine,), but it's not going too well at the moment. My mind is a funny thing, and the plot isn't really coming together properly. I'll get there, though.
As for my favourite authors, they are: Stephenie Meyer (who doesn't know her? Edward and Bella are so famous they might as well be alive!), Marianne Curley (the time-travel genius), David Clement-Davies (author of 'Fire Bringer' and 'The Sight' both about animals with really great storylines and amazingly well written), and, undoubtedly, the infamous J.K. Rowling, whose work I adore so much that I devote my time to writing a fan fiction based on it. Please don't get me started on reasons why I love Harry Potter so much because you won't be able to shut me up.
Okay, so, about my actual writing... I'm only going to upload a few things on here to start with, but nothing I actually have hopes for. I'm still paranoid about plagiarism and all that stuff. Bear in mind that most of the things I post on this site will be things that I wrote quite a while back, and my writing has improved enormously since then. Some of my stories may be... how to put it? Strange, to say the least. You see, there's this game I play with my sister when we're bored, where my brother gives us a title and an opening line and we have to go from there. Generally we just go as crazy as possible with names, character, events, plots, you name it. The results are frighteningly stupid. But you never know, some of these crazy things might appeal to you. And because I have absolutely no dignity to protect, I'll upload a few of them and see what you think.
Magic On Ice
No, it's actually not about a druggie, believe it or not. It's about figure skaters. "Oh, yippee," you say. Well... truth be told, it may be one enormous cheeseball. I'm not going to deny that. But most people who have read it told me it's entertaining and addictive. Whatever suits the readers, I guess. It's not finished, but I'll get around to it someday, and there's enough to read to keep you going for a while. It was originally written for 2007 NaNoWriMo, which was amazingly fun. I got to 50,000 words, but my book still wasn't finished. Me and my inability to write short stories... I must learn.
ANYWAY, I should really stop rambling and actually get on to what the story's about.
It's centered around three Junior Level figure skaters aiming for the Nationals, whose paths may be a little more treacherous than they anticipated. Allie, Emma and Rhapsody-Anne (nicknamed Rhea for good reason) are ambitious and talented, but it's not going to be enough. They'll have to overcome numerous obstacles and hardships if they want to fulfill their dreams, and some of these have nothing to do with skating at all. The question is - who will make it all the way?
Honestly, the characters aren't your typical "fairy princesses" as you might have presumed by this stage. Actually, one of them is an accident-prone semi-punk with parents that are away so much they basically don't exist; another is a depressed loser who can't get over something that happened years ago and spends all her time sulking and trying to communicate with the dead. And the last one... well, most have labelled her a snob. She was my favourite in the beginning, but as it tends to go, she was probably my least favourite by the end. Anyway, you've probably had enough of reading this long-winded "summary." What are you waiting for? The link's down there. v v
Man of the Woods
Well... This happens to be one of the "game" stories. So it's basically just rubbish. Actually, it's one of the better ones, and it's made a few people fall off their seats laughing, so why not you too? (Hmm, let me think... Probably because you might have a trace of sanity in you? That would be it.) It's about Granger, an inexperienced oaf of a hunter, and his travels through the woods in order to murder all the "Winnies" in sight. Voyaging in a pink flamingo feather vest and armed with a deadly mace that he isn't quite sure how to use, Granger grunts his way through the forest until he falls into a trap. The Winnies seek revenge - but their plans are brought to a halt when the mysterious, paper-voiced Man of the Woods makes an appearance and sweeps Granger away to safety. However, all does not go to plan, and Granger finds himself face-to-face with his worst, green-furred enemies...
