I am a medieval Germanist working on my M.A. Most of my time is taken up by silly graduate school. Occasionally, I find time for writing these little novellas that have been bouncing around in my head the last few years and performing as an oral storyteller. I live an otherwise aesthetic life that nevertheless includes a healthy dose of surrealism in its makeup.
I have a fondness for metafiction as well as satire. I have also naturally acquired a taste for the medieval literatures of many countries (particularly Iceland). I once read quite a bit of fantasy, but have subsequently become rather picky since I figured out that the Icelanders excelled at telling of swords and sorcery with a palatable wit and style nearly a thousand years ago and very few modern authors have managed to surpass them in this art.
Most of what I have up here is several years old and not reflective of my current style. Only my essays and novellas can be considered current. If you like satire, dry humor, and wit that makes no claims of being particuarly random (I have no idea why that is so often lauded as a good trait), you might enjoy my fiction. Watch out though, as it can also be somewhat dense and assumes that you have a college graduate's vocabulary (one who did not struggle to write passing papers). The essays I write here are not academic, but reflect my interests as a linguist and a general enthusiast for the ways language can be used in art, both written and spoken. You might be interested in them if you possess some of the same interests, but otherwise probably not.
As will become readily apparent over time, my central focus on this site is on a series of novellas: The Worth of Words. The first of these is Priceless, where a drastic change in the value of books bears wide implications. I update it when I remember and plan to do so indefinitely until completion. Now updating the second in the series: Never Say Sometimes. It picks up right where the first left off and continues to tell a microcosm of the world's shift into a new information age.
I will do my best to return the favor of reviews, though I may be delayed when distracted by my work and studies.
