"I myself must mix with action, lest I wither by despair." - Alfred Lord Tennyson
Violent Messiah aka Urban Messiah, or DK as I'm known to my friends, really isn't violent, although my stories tend to be. Currently residing in Atlanta, I'm a worldly type of guy thanks to free buddy passes on a major airline. My favorite destination is to see my favorite football club, Manchester United (go Red Devils!), play at Old Trafford and then knock back a few pints at some of the local pubs before flying home.
Lets see, what else...oh yeah, I'm really into zombies and don't care much for the way vampires are written these days (thanks a lot, Anne Rice, Laurel K. Hamilton and especially YOU, Stephanie Meyer! Sparkly vampires? Are you pissing me?). I plan on offering my own take on the vampire story eventually, probably as soon as I'm done with my take on the zombie story.
(UPDATE! Yeah, the above turned out not to be so true after all. Instead of a vampire story, I started a fantasy story, Heaven's Requiem: The Forsaken. After that, I plan on starting my spy/action story. Then...maybe...I'll go with the vampire story. Possibly. Don't hold me to it.I got a cyberpunk story that's looking realllly good.)
Speaking of Zombie stories, I'd like to hear from some of my fellow writers of the genre. I feel we need to stick together and maybe share ideas on how to keep our subject fresh and not go all cookie cutter like the zombie's more famous yet very over done undead brethren, the vampire. And no, people...this is not me saying I don't like vampire stories. One of my followed stories on Fiction Press happens to be a vampire story called Far From Human by Paige Evans. So on the contrary, if you have something with a fresh take on the vampire, please let me know!
But be warned: If your summary says anything about 'a teenage girl', 'high school' or 'vampire hunter', I'm rolling my eyes before I even start page one, but I will give it a chance! However, if your vampires spend more time sleeping with your main character instead of trying to bite her? Then we got issues. This will not fly with me! My sleazy cousin Sex Messiah may get a kick out of stories like that, but I'm VIOLENT Messiah, for kripes sake! Bring back the monster and the violence to the vampire story, I say!
(UPDATE! I have finally found a vampire themed story (with werewolves as a bonus) that, in my opinion, does the vampire mythos justice. One Thousand Years of Darkness by Comawhite13 breaks the tired mold of the angsty, oversexed, metrosexual vampire and takes them back to being the arrogant, evil, scheming bad asses they should be. Scope it out.
Finally, I'd like to give props to some of my fellow zombie writers, such as Casey Jones (Chaotic), newshound (The Graveyard Tales), Cheeseraptor5 (Arsenic Kisses) and the dude with IMO the most awesome book title, NathanDavis (Let The Bodies Hit The Floor). While waiting for updates from my zombie story (An Anti Hero's Tale), check theirs out, why don'tcha?
Oh yeah...when I'm taking a break from writing and reading, I try to review because I know all you little monsters crave feedback on your stories. If you would like to be reviewed by me or some other pretty cool people, go here:
The Roadhouse
Great place to hang out and get your stuff reviewed...check it out!
I specialize in reviewing Horror (duh), Action (duh again), Supernatural (see a pattern yet?), Adventure (...), Sci-Fi and Fantasy. For some weird reason I've been known to do a couple of Romance reviews (how, I honestly don't know) and will generally take a shot at reviewing anything, but I don't do poetry as I don't get it and don't feel like I should be reviewing it.
Cheers! -=x
