Author has written 3 stories for General, Love, and Fantasy. Hello People! Stuff about me: I'm just a quirky, sometimes slow-minded female who enjoys writing. My age is my secret. I'm an absolute hypocrite. I like to shop. What can I say, I'm a girl. Also, I'm a love-triangle fanatic. Be warned that I have the attention span of a three-year old so I tend to leave stories hanging. Genres I love are mystery, fantasy, romance and angst. Music is my life, next to food. I read manga on a daily basis. If I could choose to have one talent, I'd wish I could draw. Seriously. Garth Nix and Sophie Kinsella are my writing idols. I do enjoy a good horror read but only if they are really well-written. Like a lot of other kids, I used to be obssessed with collecting every R.L.Stines' books. I hate cliches. I love reviews :) Generally, I would only write when I'm in the 'mood' or if I have myself a good plot. Other than that, I just like to read. I am what I am.. I'm ASIAN, so I MUST be sexy. ...to show how closed-minded our world really is. My Story: Nature's Seasons is my first original work to be posted on this site. I plan to make it quite epic, with many, many chapters to come. The concept itself have been much inspired from one of my favorite manga, Yuu Watase's Fushigi Yuugi. Like the manga, my story is about ordinary girls from our world being thrown forth into a parallel dimension and there they discover a startling revelation about their so-called normal lives. I'm a real sucker for anything to do with parallel worlds (and all things magical) so it's only appropriate that I write about it. It sounds cliche, I know and I'm supposedly an anti-cliche person but if you scroll up, you'll see that I'm also a hypocrite ;) Blame my doubled personality. Helpful Stuff (Sorta): Okay, I once came across this site that gave me the best advice on writing because it really DID work for me. I even saved it on a page in notebook. Too bad I didn't save the site, would have been much easier then. Well, here goes. Major Component of the Story. 1. Plot is the organization of events that will take place in the story. - Be specific in your writing. - The more specific the detail, the more real the story will seem to the reader. - Becoming a skilled typist (on a word processor) is extremely useful to a writer. - Very few people make a living at writing fiction. - Revision is important. A writer can always do one more revision. - At some point the writer has to stop revising and get the work published. - Show, don't tell. - Avoid starting a story with dialogue. - Don't use clichés. - The more detail in the story, the more interesting the story. - Revise, revise, revise, revise, . . . - Avoid author intrusion. - Write what you like to read. - Don't use exclamation points. - Use surprise and irony. - The shorter the story, the more important each word becomes. - Descriptions and technical details must be authentic; when the reader suddenly realizes that the writer made a mistake, the reader is jarred - Avoid overused words. - Success breeds success. The more published you are, the easier it is to get published again. - Every word can be used appropriately somewhere in some story. - Don't tell what happened; recreate what happened. - The beginning of a story must be interesting. Readers can be lost on page one. - Scorning the work of a writer does not make that writer a better writer. - The best fiction can come from the preposterous imaginations of writers who are good storytellers.I hope this help you writers in some way. Peace! | |||||
