Author has written 6 stories for Fantasy, General, and Romance. I am a devoted wife and mother of four small children. I enjoy journaling in my spare time and just recently took up writing creative fiction. I tend to write in a style based off of what I am reading--which is always varied. Until recently, this has always come across in my blog about my children. I am a huge Jane Austen fan, so, after reading her books for the billionth time, I tend to write very formal. My all-time favorite series is the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. I honestly have no hope to write as well as he, but after reading a good fantasy, my descriptions tend to get more detailed. Unfortunately, I will also get writer's block after reading one of his books as my insecurities rise to the surface. So if I am in the mood to write, I stay away from him. As for others' writing, I am not a stickler for grammar and correct punctuation--although if it is overtly awful, my obsessive compulsiveness will stop me from enjoying it. Instead, what I enjoy most about a good novel, is a good storyteller. Don't bog me down in descriptions of every flower on the hillside--give me some action! I have been known to skip descriptions to search for conversations and thoughts. And I'm a sucker for a good romance. There are those that have a great knack for getting me drawn into their story and when that happens, I will read without fail until it is finished--even if the writing is not the best. I am trying hard to learn that secret. I really like reviews... I mean, I REALLY like reviews. Just a simple, "I'm reading this chapter" at least lets me know you are out there. And hey, for all you shy folk, you can even submit them anonymously...I don't care. My favorite writing quote of all time: "People who use profanity to make their point are just too lazy to find a better adjective." -my dad (although he was just speaking of life in general) About my stories: Basic summary...which I am horrible at by-the-way. Let's just say that the story is better than the summary (or I think so anyway!) After losing her husband in a freak accident, Sovryn is approached by a man who claims to know secrets to her husband's past. Soon she finds herself in a strange new land (chapter 4 :-D), surrounded by people who are depending on her to save their kingdom--with hidden talents as her weapons and a "child" as her guide. Full of all the fun stuff--romance, sword fighting (I promise, it's in there eventually!), humor (at least mildly amusing to me anyway), a strong heroine, and an evil Sovereign. My shortened summary on here (an excerpt from chapter 14): Her tiny hand in mine roused my every maternal instinct, screaming at me to pick up this innocent little girl and carry her out of here. This area was far too dangerous. That is what the silence shouted at me. Danger. FYI...I really like this story--if you give it a chance, you might like it also! I have uploaded all of the chapters that I have written so far. Everything from here on out is brand new...but I will try to update often--minimum once a month, but my goal is at least every other week. (IDEALLY once a week, but that's pushing it...I have very little free time! :-D) Field of Vision: (I can't help it, I love my title!) Basic summary: Having been born blind and sensitive to light in a technologically advanced solar society, Elanie was forced to spend her entire life underground until chosen for an experimental injection that gave her sight...and other "gifts". Deemed dangerous and thrown into exile, she excepts her fate until she uncovers a plot to destroy her friends. Now she must seek the help of the enemy--those who had caused her blindness originally--and examine all that she holds to be true. She once was blind, but now she sees...all too clearly. This also has a lot of the fun stuff - romance, adventure, "magic" (although not really--more like X-Men stuff...). Exiled. The word did not frighten Elanie as it should. After all, she had been in exile the majority of her existence. Nevertheless, she would make it back. Somehow, she had to save those whose lives had long ago been discarded—even if death is the cost. This one is truly a work in progress...what you see on here is all I have done so far. But I like to update and I know where this story is going so it should not take me too long...we'll see! :-D UPDATE: This one is temporarily on hold while I finish Sovereign. I really like this story and I promise I will finish it, but it was too difficult for me to stay in the right mindset while working on both at the same time. Besides...I have very little free time! :-D Short stories written for Review Game Forum's Writing Challenge Contest.
