Shorter ones No Comment - Winner of the RG's November 2009 WCC. A story about moving forward despite the burden of the past. Set mainly in India. For those that wanted to know what happened next, it's continuation is 'Written in the Clouds'. Plus ca change - Winner of the RG's January 2011 WCC. The prompt was 'change something', so I did. :) Other WCC entries: Missing Freight, The Women's Dance, little man, in the end there was nothing but darkness, The Hunters, Life, underwater, Khmoc. Other La Campanella entries: The Devil's in the Detail , Lost . Feast of the Iron Whale - entry in the January gossip forum's writing contest. The prompt was to write an Animal Story. These Animals are sharks circling a storm-beaten ship... Golden Grove - A young girl finds herself seperated from her family during an epidemic in turn of the century Sydney. Will She Survive? (for non Aussies, that last bit is a reference to an add we used to have on telly here. 'Bushfires. Will You Survive?' XD) Medium ones Home - Winner of the January La Campanella Writing Contest and Runner Up in La Campanella's Le Prompt Response Fantastique Award. The prompt was to write a story set in the year 2030 that included five facts from a 'what will the future be like?' presentation. This one is about a prisoner of war let out and trying to refind her place in a society that has changed somewhat. For one thing, the U.S. doesn't exist anymore, most of the world is either controlled by either India or China... Written in the Clouds - Outcast by her family, Vani makes a life for herself in a convent in India. But the wheel of fate is always turning, and things are looking up, when a not so secret admirer enters her life. Does he really want her, and will he still when he discovers her past? Freedom Bound - Set in Ancient Greece, the tale of Timotheus and his slave girl Serrae. Timo is determined to journey as far as it takes to bring honour to his slain father. Serrae is equally determined, but with quite different goals. It's sequel Temple Dancer is up too! Medusa - a retelling of the Ancient Greek myth of Perseus and Medusa. But what if were not myth, and Medusa was not the monster the ancients would have us believe? A strong woman is, to many, a monster... But beware, there are sharks in them there waters. 403 Forbidden - A joint work between Said Author and myself. Disgustingly long ones A Puppet in the Hand - Judge's Pick (and runner up public pick) Most Inspirational Character (Tam) La Campanella Awards 2010. The story of a girl finding her path in an authoritarian state. She grew up in a psych ward with no memories (or so she thinks), so you discover her world as she does. Her passive existence inside the ward broken, she must come to grips with the relative merits of Freedom and Order, Right and Wrong, Obeying and Commanding, Power and Poverty, Past and Future. That makes it sound heavy, eh? Its not that heavy. :) Nochnayia Lubov - Winner of La Campanella's Tragedy and Historical Awards. First three chapters were an entry in the February Gossip forum's writing contest. The prompt was to write a tale of forbidden love. This one is set in a Siberian labour camp, where Katya enters into a relationship with an officer to secure medicine for her friend. A simple business transaction becomes complicated when feelings heat up. Has now turned into a bit of an epic, involving Tsarist vs Communist Russia in the late 1930's. Yes, historical revisionism at its best. well, who hasn't wanted to do away with Stalin? First Drawn - An early work, yet to be editted. Kattryn discovers her drawings can summon people's spirits. Which would be fine if she didn't have an arts degree to finish, a vampire set on (possibly) destroying her, a wolf following her around, and... yeah, it gets complicated. is actually six books back to back, if that makes it any easier to get your head around. Complete, and it's sequel Spirit Song is up too. | |||||||
