|Matthew J. Brown|
Author has written 1 story for Fantasy.
The words, and the worlds, have been inside me my whole life — but it's only recently I've been able, or perhaps confident enough, to start writing properly again, and actually feeling I can do this writing thing. Perhaps I needed enough years — and experiences — under my belt, in order to write true. Thirty-seven years on this earth may be almost enough for this slow learner.
My calling is fantasy. I prefer to work in eras more analogous to the nineteenth and early twentieth century than the common Medieval and Renaissance inspirations, and in worlds that are wholly new and not ours, past or present. My characters are people of their time and place, not visitors. I like technology and technical magic. As a student of military history, many of my characters are soldiers. A lot of them are women, and many of them are gay or bisexual. I like writing about relationships, whether sexual, romantic or otherwise.
When I'm not writing, I photograph, obsess about old trains and other technologies, read obsessively, and spend far too much time on the Internet. I'm active on the time-sucking site TV Tropes, was formerly heavily involved in Wikipedia, and have a Wiki obsession in general.
For work, I break and fix UNIX systems for a university.
