"The urge to save humanity is almost always a false front for the urge to rule it." - H.L. Mencken

The 7 Human Truths

1. Everybody lies.
2. Everybody hates.
3. Nobody is objective.
4. Nobody is enlightened.
5. Everybody loves.
6. Everybody wants what is best for the world.
7. Nobody agrees on what that is.

These are the rules which I try to follow when I write. These will be true of every character I ever create, the "good" and the "bad". The hero will lie and hate, and so will the villain. The villain will love and dream, and so will the hero. It reminds me to make the characters deep, to not let them slip into one dimensional farces. There will be no antagonists motivated solely by things like loathing and greed. There will be no protagonists motivated solely by their own enlightenment and moral clarity.

None of these truths are positive or negative. I firmly believe that all humans, barring perhaps a small few extreme cases, conform to these seven simple statements, because they are human nature.

Because they are necessary.
