I'm also on Twitter at DuctTapeAlchemy.

I'm a college student and budding writer with big dreams and a big heart.

I never set out to write what I write. I do not really take an active role in the creative process. When I do, it sucks. No, I start typing, and something inside me writes my stories. It's like these tales are locked inside of me, and when I let them possess me, they spill out on to the screen. Thus, I rarely control plot development. Those twists? Yeah, they suprise me too. Character development? I fight my characters every step of the way.

For instance, I was writing a novella where two of my main characters were determined to fall in love, even though I didn't want them to until the end if the story. Every few pages, I'd reread what I'd written and see them kissing. I'd delete the scene and forbid them to do it again. But like all rebellious, lovestruck children. . . lo and behold, I'd write another chapter, read it, and there they'd be, at it again.

My characters are my children, in a way. They grow and develop under my loving care for a while, but then they pull away, have experiences away from me, and come back to me differently than I had envisioned them. I guess that's life. Some people say I need to control them, but I think my writing is more vivid when I give them as much freedom as possible.

I've been writing a lot of fanfiction lately to learn better character development so I can rope the little rascals in a little bit more. My current project, the Mushi-Hime series, is a Mushishi and FullMetal Alchemist crossover, and it's pretty fun. But my heart is in original work, and thus I decided it was time to begin a large original project to write parallel to the fanfiction.

Firesoul is a little confusing, but it's going to be an interesting ride, I think. Won't you join me?
