Author has written 13 stories for General, Life, Fantasy, Supernatural, Young Adult, and Horror.

NEWS:

The Second Incident, sequel to The Incident is now up. Both stories are NONFICTION. Note that there are some very serious subjects tackled in these stories, including graphic descriptions of self-harm and suicide. Read at your own risk!

PLEASE NOTE: Freedom of Sketch is currently in the process of agent review for possible publication. Due to this status, it has been removed to avoid plagiarism. Please note that if it becomes published, it will not be re-posted. All short stories related to Freedom of Sketch have also been deleted for the same reasons.

Currently beginning a new fictional YA novel by the title, Splash. The story focuses on family relationships, guilt, and secrets.

Readers of X4592: This story is not an example of my best writing. I developed the idea in the seventh grade and am currently in college. I can assure you my writing style has improved 500 percent since its post here on fictionpress. I am not saying that this story is not a worthwhile read (it covers some very deep topics), but I kindly request you approach this story as "pleasure reading material". Thanks!

About Me:

My name is Rebecca. At the time of this profile update, I am an undergraduate at the University of South Florida, where I am working toward a dual major in Psychology and Studio Art (Drawing). I have plans on entering graduate school for a career in Clinical Psychology and eventually would like to work with adolescents and young adults in either a treatment facility or private practice. My research interests include Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), depression, self-injury, anxiety, and eating disorders. Upon reading some of my nonfictional work on this site, you'll understand why.

My life as a writer has been unpredictable and challenging, but ultimately rewarding. I primarily write fictional young-adult novels with dark psychological undertones. Some readers have labeled my work as "depressing", although I prefer to call it "raw". I started writing when I was eleven years old as a means of coping with a traumatic event (see: The Incident). My writing style has evolved from being flowery and elaborate to straightforward and lyrical. As I matured in my literature, I really began to tone down my use of excessive violence in my work (Note: Before this "maturing" my posted story X4592 was written, so bear with me). My editing skills have also improved due to experience, which is great because, believe it or not, I have terrible dyslexia. Once in a blue moon I'll write some poetry, though it's not my forte. Authors who are a major influence on my work are Laurie Halse Anderson (Speak, Wintergirls) and Janet Fitch (White Oleander). Currently my goals for my writing career are big: Freedom of Sketch is, as mentioned under "News", being processed for possible publication, and I'm writing Splash in hopes it will be a publishable second novel. I hope to put my writing to good use after several years of schooling have given me the authority to touch on research topics related to mental health. We'll see. For now I'm tackling my excessive fear of driving and the mathematical elements in my "Research Methods in Psych" class. Blechh!

My personal life has definitely been less than perfect, and has been the main influence on my writing (I'm sure this is true of most authors). I have grown up a nomadic military brat with no siblings and a small support system of mostly close friends. Sometimes readers ask me "how I know" about the topics I address in my stories, and that's a question that could be answered simply by reading The Incident and its sequel I plan on writing more autobiographical stories of my darkest experiences because people tend to thrive on the stuff, either because they can identify with it or because another's pain can truly help others understand just how lucky they are. Now that things are getting better, I am writing more for the general population, instead of writing for myself. I love to help people and give others hope and if I can achieve that by doing the things I love, then I know why I was put on this earth.

Other projects: I'm very much into drawing and photography. Currently I am exploring documentary photography, which is particularly interesting to someone who is majoring in both Psychology and Studio Art. You can view my best work in these fields here: http://freedomofsketch.webs.com/apps/photos/. (My site--particularly the blog, where I write assigned essays--is for credit in my Concepts and Practices class and is frequently evaluated by my professor. So I ask that if you leave comments, please keep them respectful.)

If you have any questions or comments about my work on this website, please send me a message.
