| Mercyette |
Author has written 2 stories for Romance. About me: Hi! My pen name is Mercyette (I used to be GreatAmericanAuthor), but my real name is Brittany. I guess I've been writing pretty much my whole life, but I just recently started posting on the internet. I guess I'll tell you a little about myself. I love to write, obviously, but I also LOVE to draw anime-though I'm not very good at it. My Interests: In my spare time I read. I try to read the Bible at least 30 minutes per day. I'm pretty bad about skipping around in the books, though. Right now I'm just about finished with Deutoronomy, and I plan on going on into Joshua. I also love Janette Oke's books. Long Live Love Comes Softly! The movies are amazing, too, just don't go see them in the theater, unless you want to be surrounded by old biddies...my friend, C.F. Anne and I learned that that hard way, lol. I also am in love with Karen Kingsbury's books. I hear she has a new one out...Hmmm, I'll have to convince my parents to get it for me. I read Francine Rivers (Favorite is The Last Sin Eater), DeeAnne Gist (The Measure of a Lady), Sarah Dessen (Someone Like You) Brian Jacques (Redwall Series), Diana Wynne Jones (Chrestomanci chronicles), Fannie Flagg (Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe), Mitch Albom (The Five People You Meet in Heaven), The Secret Life of Bees, Little Women, Harry Potter, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Wuthering Heights, The Jennifer Scales series, and so on and so forth. There's too many to name! My favorite anime is by far Fruits Basket. It makes me kinda sad, though, because Ayame gives all of us snakes a bad name...LOL. My Muses - those who help get me up and out of the rut of writer's block: Tyler Perry's Madea, Idgie Threadgoode, Sybil Applewhite, ect... Reading List: The Redemption of Sarah Cain, by Beverly Lewis This Side of Heaven, by Karen Kingsbury Going Home, by Wanda Brunstetter The Cavedweller, by Dorothy Allison The Shack, by William P. Young When I'm not reading or writing: Since I'm 19, I'm almost ashamed to say that I still play the Nancy Drew mystery games. (I'm saving up for the new Crystal Skull game! Rock on!) I'm thinking about calling the company that makes them and accusing them of false advertisment. No 10 year old could possibly play those games and beat it without seeking out the help of a friend or the internet! At my age, I still have to go on HerInteractive at least once per game. Except The Scarlet Hand...I had to go on HerInteractive at least 3 million times for that one...When I'm not playing Nancy Drew, I'm typically trying to finish school work, singing in my church choir, baby-sitting, and horseback riding. R&R Policiy: I like to pay it foreward. When people read and review for me, I typically do the same for them (if they have stories, and if they don't I usually send them a thank-you reply) and then review someone else at random. It may take me a while to read everything, but I eventually do. I truly believe in the power of communication. If we leave compliments and constructive critisicm, we can all grow as readers and writers. Music: I have to say that I'm a country gal. I love Little Big Town, Sugarland, Kenny Chesney, and many others. I enjoy listening to soundtracks (especially Disney) and all sorts of Christian bands. I do listen to the occasional pop/rap/rock song. I love Journey and Fort Minor... Writing Style/Generes: I typically write Christian fiction mingled with romance. I like writing about real-life issues that readers (especailly me) can relate to. I like to create believable characters as well. Sometimes the perfect hero/flawless chracter can just get plain boring. That's why I pride myself in my "true to life" characters. I'm glad my characters live only in my mind, however. If I were to meet them in a deserted alley one day...I wouldn't be updating my stories anytime soon, if you catch my drift. I write the occasional historical (typically mingled with Christian themes) and fantasy as well. I'd like to try a mystery at some point, too. Hmmm, I'll have to ponder a plot for that one... Works in Progress: 1.) Leaning Towards Love - Christian Fiction/Romance - NaNoWriMo '07. I'm currently on the 13th chapter. Posted on this site. 2.) A Small Mustard Seed - Christian Fiction - Working on the 2nd chapter. Was inspired by the Fisher House for injured soldiers and thier families. 3.) If Only - Historical/Christian Fiction - I had to re-write what I had written before. I had origionally set the time when Elanore (Ellie) was a child, but I decided to let her grow up some in the revision. Currently working on the 3rd chapter. 4.) Now and for Always - Christian Fiction - Its a story of reconciliation of a mother and her children. It's kind of come to a halt right now, but I hope to get the first chapter up soon. 5.) Faerlyte (Working Title) - Fantasy - Again, this is a story that I had to revise. I had written out on paper a generous amount of it, but didn't like where it was going. So now I have to re-write. 6.) A Message From Mattie - Christian Fiction - Yet to be posted on FictionPress. I'm still working on the first chapter. Its about a woman, Meredith, who's a nurse raising a family of four. Her husband later seeks a divorce, so she's forced to raise the family on her own. Her faith as a whole struggles, until she meets a young boy named Mattie, who's been diagnosed with Leukemia, yet still has a love of both life and God. Hopefully the first chapter will be posted soon... 7.) A Message from Delilah - Christian Fiction - This is the prequel to A Message from Mattie. It explaines about how Meredith found her love for nursing and how she came to know our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Starts off with Meredith getting her first job at a nursing home. She meets a special friend, Delilah, finds her faith, comes to terms with the death of her mother, learns to forgive her father and love her step mother. 8.) A Brother's Love - Christian Fiction - Yet to be posted. I'm still working on the first chapter. It's about a wife and mother named Katie. The family of four is having financial strains, and Katie suspects that her husband, Andrew, is cheating on her when he goes on his extensive business trips. Katie is driven back home due to the death of her mother. She is forced to take in her Autistic brother, who can't live on his own, despite her financial troubles and depression induced by past secrets. Will her brother prove to be a burden or a blessing? This story is still in the "Planning Process". I have to make sure I have everything right before I start to write. Hopefully it'll be up soon. 9.) Out of the Fire - Christian Fiction - A book written in conjunction with C.F. Anne. I have the first two chapters written, and I suppose I can go ahead and post it... 10.) The Allied Powers - (Working Title) - Fantasy/Mystery - I'm in the process of writing the second chapter of this new fantasy. It will take a little whle longer to get the finer details worked out. 11.) Eyes of the Beholder - Historical/Romance - Set when World War II breaks out. A young nurse is just starting to see what the horrors of war can do to her countrymen and her brothers. She spends her time healing victims who were unfortuante enough to have been in the way during Pearl Harbor. During which, she meets a young Japanese man. Her time with him is short before he is dismissed from the hospital. A couple weeks later, she gets news that the US is keeping all Japanese citizens in a internment camp, where provisions are sorely needed, as well as medical assistance, and, above all, prayer. She decides to go off in search of her love, and, when she finally finds him, will he have the courage to open his heart to the very type of person who all but jailed him? Will her family ever forgive her for her betrayal to her country? Lousy summary, I know, but I'm excited about it. I typically don't write much historical, let alone modern history. It'll take quite a bit of studying before I can start. 12.) A Plain Summer - Christian Fiction/Romance - NaNoWriMo '08 - Whitney Everlette is one of the best students in the New York University anthropology department. She has just finished her junior year and must start preparing for her thesis, which she must complete in order to graduate. Since most work in anthropology is done through cultural immersion, Whitney requests a grant to work out of state. Finally, her thesis is approved. Whitney will be spending her summer within an Amish community, studying thier way of life. She isn't quite prepared for what lays ahead of her, as she has no idea how to milk a cow, sew, or even cook. She isn't being entirely treated as part of the community by her host family's daughter, either. In the midst of her study, a young man catches her attention at a church session. Connor Ronstadt has a reputation as a hard worker and a man of values so he is friendly enough to the anthropologist-to-be. While Connor moves in closer and challenges her religious beliefs, Whitney must face her father once more and the pain that it brings. In addition, Whitney knows that nothing can come from a relationship with Connor, but her heart seems to tell her different. And, to top it all off, her fifty page thesis has to be handwritten to abide by Amish cultural standards! 13.) Small Mercies - Historical Fiction - NaNoWriMo '09 - Briar Houser-Schroder is a young girl of thirteen growing up in rural Foxford, Alabama in 1953. Foxford is a small town that she has always known, her Momma and uncles and aunts living there since they were born. It's a small paradise to most, a town caught in time and forever stagnant. Never changing. For Briar, however, her hometown is a place of scrutiny for her and her family. The Housers were not well respected, having the reputation of taking the path less traveled and poor judgement. Briar was blind to this for the majority of her life, however. Now that she's reached the threshold of young womanhood, though, her family's ugly secrets become more prominent. Briar lives with her mother and father and little sister, Molly. Fights between her parents are common within the walls of her home and beatings are prevalent for Briar as well, being hot tempered like her uncle. Briar is left at home while her mother goes out at night to work at a questionable job. Her mother, Renee, and aunt, Francine, are good friends with a colored family living farther outside of town, having been supportive of each other for several years. On a late spring day, however, a white man is found dead and the colored family is suspected of having been involved. In a dangerous confrontation with the White Supremists, a gun is shot and Renee manages to take the bullet for her friend. As a result of her mother's death, Briar's life is turned upside down. She and her sister are now left with thier father, who's drowning in his own anger and grief. The grief quickly becomes physical for the girls and Briar is forced to take up responsibilities for the home and her sister, things she had never had to do before. In her will, her mother left Briar a peculiar memento: an old, worn copy of Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. Through the yellowed pages, Briar could see that certain phrases and names were underlined and starred. While surviving through harsh abuse, rumors of her mother being a prostitute, and caring for her little sister, Briar tries to unravel the mystery her mother left behind in the book - key elements to her past. In her journey she learns the real meaning of love, loyalty and happiness, who her true friends are, and the fact that no matter how hard you try to hide it, the past will always come back to haunt you. Update: I know it's a little late, but I have successfully finished my second year of NaNoWriMo, which was much harder as it was my first year in college. I wrote the first ten-ish chapters of A Plain Summer, a story that I have really grown to love as I've written it. The chapters should keep coming, but - probably - at a much slower pace than before. Update: I have successfully finished my first year of NaNoWriMo, and am now, hopefully, participating in NaNoFiMo (National Novel Finishing Month). Hopefully the chapters will continue to come quickly. If not, just drop me a PM and nag me until I update! Hope you've enjoyed learning a little about me. Good luck with your writing and God bless!
