I'm a twenty-two year old girl enamoured of Scandinavian culture and music, the writings of Tolkien, good fantasy fiction, film, my gorgeous violin, and my darling friends. I'm also a recent college graduate (I majored in History and Scandinavian Studies and minored in French) working in the museum field. Graduate school for museum education/curator/exhibit design/historical preservation is coming up in two years or so. I speak Norwegian, French, very poor Russian, and, of course, that expressive language, English. I try not to be pretentious, but sometimes it just comes through. Please don't take me too seriously.
Some of my favorite authors include Mercedes Lackey, Charles deLint, Alice Hoffman, Dan Brown, Terry Pratchett, J.K. Rowling, Tamora Pierce, and, of course, J.R.R. Tolkien. My favorite poet of all time is Robert Frost (cliched, I know), and sometimes I aspire to his perfect mix of natural beauty, philosophy, and lyrical human emotion (my favorite poem of his is "Line-storm Song"). I've recently rediscovered Anne McCaffery (and her son Tom) and am once again falling into the dynamic world that is Pern.
All of the above authors influence me in some way or another, but I have many influences, most of which are: Nordic mythology, Nature (that's a big one), music (particularly instrumental soundtracks and Nordic and Celtic folk), J.R.R. Tolkien, Robert Frost, Mercedes Lackey (I'm repeating these people because they are HUGE influences), and, of course, everyday life.
I tend to write mostly fantasy fiction, but recently I've been bitten by the poetry bug. Few of my poems are rhymed, many of them are not even rhythmed, simply vignettes written in poem form to make the reader pay attention to the words and turns of phrase. If you don't like how I write poetry, you can tell me if you like, but it won't change my mind. Often, my poems are inspired by events or places, and are simply something to help me remember how things were. If you enjoy them as well, all the better.
Hopefully my writings are interesting, but you can always tell me if they aren't, now can't you?
