I'm a brand new addition to the Beta Reading ranks here at Fiction Press. Actually, I've never Beta Read before anywhere so I'm just a brand new addition in general. Considering this, I don't have much of a beta reading style yet. I have edited others' works before, although in more of a technical capacity than content-wise. However, I would like to give it a shot. I've been reading and writing since forever and I think looking through other people's pieces might help me with issues that I have with my own stuff.

If you're interested in asking me to Beta for you, you can probably expect great encouragement as well as constructive comments. I'm not a mean editor; it isn't my goal to make you feel belittled, but enthused to continue, to patch up what you've written and make it the best it can be.

I'm fairly good with the mechanics of writing and spotting typos. I also like to invest myself into the stories I read, this would probably help with character development issues since... Well... If I have difficulty caring about the character, there's probably something that can be done to make it more well-rounded. I'm also an ideas person. Talking out things and brainstorming is one of the best ways to get out of a rut, and I'm fairly good at prompting. At least, I've been told.

Plots. I'm not very good at planning out plots for myself so I doubt I would be much help in terms of putting things in order for others. Although, I wouldn't mind trying to help out, so I urge you to give me a shot. Practice makes perfect, after all.

Considering I'm just starting this beta reading business, I think I would like to stick to Short Stories for the moment. I will read basically anything. Some authors I enjoy are Neil Gaiman, Margaret Atwood, Dennis Lehane, Judy Blume and Micheal Chabon, to give an idea of what I usually read. I'm not too squeamish, so something of a graphic nature, either sexually or violently, won't bother me. Of course it should be written well, or else I might advise that it be taken out. :D

Poetry. Not because I don't enjoy it, but because I'm not very well versed in it, nor do I have too much experience in writing it. Although, I have slowly been growing attracted to sonnets. I also probably wouldn't be much help with Science Fiction or High Fantasy writing, also because I don't have much experience with it. On a more personal note, I would probably steer clear from Religious pieces or works that include Suicide, Cutting, or too much Teenaged Angst. I find a lot of that unnecessary, to be perfectly honest, and it's rare that someone can put a spin on it to make it both relevant to the story or interesting in general.
