I am a very open minded beta reader. I treat the written word like the piece of art that it is, but that also means that I take the task of editing very seriously. I prefer not to make changes unless I provide explanations as to why I've changed it. The writer who I'm editing for can't improve on his/her mistakes if I don't tell them what they're doing wrong. And when I prefer that the actual writer makes a change, I always leave a note and a suggestion or two. And often, I leave behind writing tips or words of wisdom after I've finished editing.

I have a very straight-to-business approach about editing, but I have no qualms about befriending the writer I edit for. Communication is the key between betareader and the author. And I would prefer to be more than just some third party combing through your work for errors. Getting to know YOU and the way YOU think makes it ten times easier for me to keep as much 'you' into my editing as possible.

Expections: I don't mess around with editing, period, but no human is perfect and I may occasionally miss an error or two. I will leave notes at the beginning or end of your chapter with a quick summary of my overall thought of the chapter. If I feel that the chapter started to lag towards the end, I'll bring that up. But, more than anything, you can expect that I'll be very thorough and picky, to make sure your story gets the most bang.

My particular strengths with betareading are the following:

I have a very dedicated eye to catching errors, and it's rare that my eyes miss anything.

I make corrections or suggestions with you in mind and not just the potential reader. I only edit the way I'd like editing done for myself. I will tell you if you've made mistakes, but I won't tell you in a way that hurts your feelings. I am very serious when it comes to proper grammar, punctuation, and sentence grammar.

I am not the quickest betareader. This is due to the fact that I'm very picky about getting things right, and that I take my role as editor seriously. So, if you're looking for your story/chapter to be quality edited the day you send it to me, I probably shouldn't be your first choice.

I am not comfortable editing dialogue unless it's a spelling error. I feel bad about taking words out of a characters mouth and then changing them.

I prefer to edit young adult, general, romance, and the occasional supernatural or fantasty genre, but that doesn't mean I won't edit other genres. It just means that I don't have enough experience in those genres. But I'm pretty much open to anything.

I can handle editing slash, but if they have explicit scenes, I prefer not to read them. I have no problems with accepting slash, but even I have lines that I won't cross. Other than that, I am pretty much open to anything, but if your story suddenly turns into Flowers In The Attic, I probably will not react very well.
