I'm a pretty flexible person when it comes to beta reading. I like it when the writer gives me a deadline that I have to meet. I do much better when there's a deadline. Type A and all that :) What I've been doing for my friend, Roarkshop, is she sends me her chapter via gmail and I opened it up and edit online and I invite her in so she can see the changes I'm making AND we can have discussions about the changes then and there. But if a writer would rather send it to me and I type out my edits, then that's fine with me. When that happens, I copy and paste the sections that need editing, do the edit in bold, and give my reasons in bold for the change. As of this moment, I don't have a job and I'm waiting to start school back up in the fall, so I have A LOT of time on my hands.

Frankness, but in the best way possible. I will be honest about whether or not I like an idea or scene or sentence. But I won't just come out and say, "Oh this sucks, change it." I will give my suggestions and reasons as to WHY something just isn't working for me. I am more than willing to bounce ideas off of each other in order to help out the creative process. I'm really good at catching awkwardly worded sentences and word choice/placement. I'm also good at catching punctuation; spelling errors, wrong word choice, commas, etc. I'm also pretty good at catching on to the tone of the situation and making sure that it all fits and flows together well; making sure the writing is consistent.

Skimming. I get really excited and miss spelling or grammatical errors if I am really excited about reading the whole thing. Especially if I'm editing in Google Docs with the writer in the chat with me. If the writer were to send the chapter to me and I edit that way, then I tend to be better at catching things. I'm not a very good thesaurus either. And sometimes my Eblish comes out. Which is when my hands totally think on their own and end up spelling words really weird.

I'm down to read almost anything.

But I REALLY hate stories that are overly whiney and the men (or women) just cannot suck it up. Absolutely cannot stand those.
