Well, I do love to read, for a start! Also, the thing that made me want to become a beta-reader was that I often find myself reading the wonderful works people have uploaded on to this site and correcting grammar, punctuation and spelling as I read through. I have a very critical eye when I read stories/poems on here so rest assured I won't be wrecking your work, merely helping you improve what you already have for the general public :)
Also, as a beta-reader, I tend to get very involved with what I'm reading and as such will treat your work with the utmost respect- but be forewarned, I'm honest and I won't tip-toe around authors (though hopefully that's a good thing!).

As you can see on my own fictionpress profile, I've written more poetry than prose but I have had experience in writing short stories; however, this doesn't dumb down my experience with prose and unfortunately although I prefer to write poetry and often get writers block with prose, in general I get along better with prose.
A strength of mine would be that I have an absolutely massive vocabulary and as such often get treated as a thesaurus; I also have knowledge in a broad degree of subjects, meaning I can assist with factual parts of stories to some extent. I'm also very haughty with my spelling, making me something of a human spell-check!
Another strength, and one I see as my main one in this area, is my attitude; I'm very laid back and open-minded, allowing me to delve in to a range of genres without feeling that I'm getting in too deep :)

As a writer I'm terrible for getting part-way in to a story then getting such a massive writers block then I end up leaving it and never going back (though I'm sure that's something most writers can empathise with!). I would say my main weakness is that my stories often tend to be very drawn out and as a result end up getting boring, which is another reason I write poetry as I can cram everything in to a few lines that way :P As a beta-reader, I would guess that one of my limitations is that I tend to get annoyed if my advice isn't taken, and it can affect my suggestions in the future; however, I am learning to accept that the author's opinion is the most important as they're the one writing the thing :)

Although I'm open to ALL stories, I prefer those in the following genres: horror, humour, supernatural, romance, young adult, spiritual, sci-fi, mystery, mythology, general and action :) Though don't let that scare you away! I'm open to read all but one genre, as stated in the following lump of text :P

I do not particularly want to read anything to do with religion as I'm not religious myself and I have a very hard time accepting deeply religious stories; don't confuse this with stories with religious references though, please. I would hate to offend an author whose forte lies in religious stories, so I will make an effort to defer anyone who would want me to beta-read anything religiously inclined.
I'm also not too keen on western stories as I've hated Westerns with a passion since I was forced to watch them over and over as a child :P
