Beta Description
Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am a tough critic. My dad was an english teacher, so I have grown up with the best teachers for writing. I have worked as a writing tutor, and am the person my friends come to when they need a paper to be read over. I have high expectations, for writing is one of my greatest passions, and if there isn't passion behind the words I can tell.

That all being said, I love to read the writings of others and help them to make their work the best it can be. I know the frustrations of having a piece you care so much about, and can hear it perfectly in your head but can't seem to properly capture on paper. And I get an incredible high out of helping others to overcome this and see their vision come to life.

So, if you need a beta-reader who will gladly be there with you every step of the way, I'm it!

My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am a great writer and critic as well. I have won multiple awards and scholarships based on my writing, and am currently revising a historical essay on the last major witch trial in England to be submitted to the Undergraduate Research Journal later this year. I am a grammar nerd (although my spelling leaves room to be desired).

As I am a history major who plans on becoming a professor one day, I obviously would be a go-to for historical writing. But I also am a devoted thriller reader. I write and read mostly in the dramatic genre, for, as I have written in a poem on this site, happy things don't inspire me. That being said, I love humor, I'm just not a sappy romance novel type person.

Some of my favourite authors include (because I think it helps to choose beta-readers based on similar interests):
Thomas Harris Chuck Palahuniuk Max Brooks Jean Plaidy James Patterson (his early books before they got repetitive)
Irene Nemirovsky Anne Rice Christopher Moore *and of course, my namesake*
Edgar Allen Poe

My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
As I mentioned before, I am not a romance novel reader. Honestly, I find them to be emotional porn for women, so I would not be a good choice for sappy stories. I also am a deist, who has spent years as an atheist, and actively dislike all religions-regardless of their denominations or beliefs (I'm a history major, religion has yet to bring something good to the table in my studies). Therefore, any spiritually oriented story in support of God or organized religion I will not receive well, so you won't get a fair read from me. Also, I have done no reading in the area of westerns, so I probably wouldn't pick me if you are writing one.

I should probably also put the disclaimer that I am fiercely liberal, so maybe if you're conservative and your stories/poems reflect these beliefs, I may not be able to hold back my own commentary. But that is entirely up to you!

Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I will beta anything you need help. But, if I could choose genres I would prefer, they would definitely be:
Horror/Thriller Drama War Tragedy Historical (note-I will be extra critical on these as I am a history buff/major and believe one must keep it accurate if you're going to call it history)
Humor Poetry (anything from there really)
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
Not my cup of tea is:
manga romance spiritual (unless its an anti-religion one)
young adult

But I will definitely make exceptions!
