Interesting view into human psychology. . . clutter really can lead to depression, after all. I wonder, though, whether your use of "the mother" and "the daughter" could be alternated more often with "her mother," etc. It develops a more personal relationship between the reader and your characters, in my experience. Anyway I found your story original and refreshing - good job.
