Reviews for I am not a Christian |

![]() ![]() ![]() One word of advice: don't generalize. Not all Christians are like that. Do you know how many times I've had to say that sentence? |
![]() ![]() ![]() Hm. . .I was referred to this essay and have a lot of thoughts on this concept, so bear with me if I leave an essay of my own. :) I believe that everyone who follows the Golden Rule (i.e., the karmaic law) is Christian. I believe anyone that follows the basic teachings of Christ, whether or not they believe he was the son of God and rose again and all that, is Christian. Therefore, I would consider myself and *all* good people Christians, though I would never call myself one. I don't believe in most of the Bible. I don't believe in the concept of a universal God, or anything else associated with any sect of "Christianity." I believe Christianity has been used to enslave and demean people, and I would never want myself associated with that. I think the essence of Christianity is the karmaic law, and the basic teachings of Christ. I don't really follow a religion (though I am pagan/Wiccan in many aspects of my beliefs). I'm more of a person trying to set down my beliefs and spirituality. "Ones religion does NOT make them a better person. It only makes them feel they have meaning in this world." I completely agree with that statement, which is why I hesitate to say I belong to a religion, I think. Though short, and with some grammar mistakes, this is a very, very nice essay, and I agree with most of your points. Kudos to you, if I knew what kudos were. . . ;) -P.M. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Good point. I think. It is my opinion that Christian's should stick together. However, you have pointed out that sometimes this does more harm than good. That's true. Those who claim to be Christians can be very twisted and have very strange beliefs. Well then, thanks for writing this! We need some other people around who will say that they follow Christ and stick with that. |
![]() ![]() ![]() wow, i REALLY liked that. it was...amazing, so to speak. i wish i could write like that, it seems everything i say makes me look like i'm one of those 'christians' u just described...and when u put it that way i am ashamed to think of some things that i do. but, i AM a follower of Christ. lol, newayz: amazing work _ i truly liked it, good essay. very nice, keep it up. -mKs |
![]() ![]() ![]() Very good. Myself, I am a Catholic (a Catholic IS a Christian). I believe in the basic morality and faith of my religion, and that's all. I'm not a Catholic to hear a priest preach a political agenda, to agree with everything the Church teaches, or to accept a male dominated hierarchy. I try to look beyond the institution to the man and the morals it's based on. |
![]() ![]() ![]() This is an excellent piece of writing. I agree with you, sort of. However, I am proud to claim myself a Christian, bought by Christ. I am His follower. I am also His child. When I first clicked on this essay I had no idea what it would be about. I that I've read it I'm glad I did. Thank you so much for writing this. You have been gifted to write by God. Keep up the good work, fellow follower! -Silver Song |
![]() ![]() ![]() I agree with you. I'm not a christin (or a follower of christ)adn I'm not an aeithist either. I'm juist rather confused ;) Good essay, you out your oint well, and I do feel that sometimes people who are releigous sometimes think that they are better than other for it. If people could jst accept that people are no better or worse for what releigon they believe, then a LOT of problems would be solved. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Wow, that was, like, the best essay I've seen on here. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Well done, but the only problem I have is it seems like you are discouraging people from attending church and from worshipping God through music. These things don't make a person 'Christian', alternate to some peoples' beliefs, but do help in our relationship with God. The knowledge one obtains from church and the act of expressing love to our God through song are valuable and shouldn't be depicted as 'religious traditions' with no importance. I also do not have a religion; I have a relationship. Christian means 'Christ-like' and that is what we are called to be. |
![]() ![]() ![]() go you! i'm christian but i hate christians who are against everything, coz its against god. i believe in christ, end of story, why should that be given a name? |
![]() ![]() ![]() My feelings exactly! Well-spoken! It is ironic how many people who call themselves Christians don't follow, or even directly go against the teachings of Christ. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Wow...I am impressed. I, myself, am a christian but don't consider this to make me special. I have beliefs and a god I can pray to and lean on when Im in trouble. I am neither offended by your article or even the slightest bit mad. God made christians to be forgiving and open to the world, people who think their better then you just cause of their beliefs are not true believers at all. They use religion to make themselves feel cooler Your right ya know, I don't own a cross (but am planning to), I don't listen to religious music and I cant wake up early enough for church. Christ was a good man, who did great things. You cannot make something to simbolize that. congrats on your great essay, it kinda opened my eyes |
![]() ![]() ![]() Hm...good point, and very original way of putting it. |
![]() ![]() ![]() hmm...i AM a Christian...you ARE a follower of Christ :) a definition of a Christian is-Professing belief in Jesus as Christ or following the religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus. |
![]() ![]() ![]() The point that I was very happy to see in your article: you have no religion. Indeed, the worship and obediance of Christ has nothing to do with being Baptist or Presbyterian or Catholic: it is simply following the Bible's truths. What people see when they think of religion is people going through rituals such as prayer and saying stuff from a holy book. What they don't realize is that to a true Christian, God is not a religion. He is real, and He is to be worshipped and obeyed by His followers. |
