i will kill myself before i get americanized. face it admiral, we dont want it. but maybe you dont care what we say. we are ignorants after all, who do not understand the wonder of democracy and liberty. we dont get to choose whether or not we have american ideals stuffed down our throats.
Guest chapter 2 . 5/22/2010
oh god no. propaganda bs.
ghettoe chapter 1 . 6/19/2009
I honestly thought that was poorly written and not persuasive in the least bit. Why? For one you stated

"The United States of America is the best example ever of how a disparate collection of nations can unite under an effective political system and rise to a level of prominence unmatched in the world." your way of proving this was just vague and weak. You stated it stopped the world wars, it's helped the underdeveloped word etc. But, not once did you cite a quote or focus on something that would prove any of this statements true, as are result, it is so easy to refute this argument. The claim that the U.S has supported the underdeveloped world is a blatant lie. Rwanda, Sudan, Somalia, Sierra Leone. I could mention alot of underdeveloped countries that the United States has failed to support, but I focus on Rwanda and Sudan. In 1994, Rwanda was plagued by genocide, the majority of the population were of the hutu tribe. The minority were tutsi's who had dominated Rwanda, after gaining independence. Fueled by their hate for the tutsis, the hutu began killing the tutsis, on a mission to eradicate them. The violence is portrayed in alot of films that have grazed hollywood, one of the most famous being Hotel Rwanda. So what does this have to do with America? Well, for one, this super power that might I add sprung up the idea of the United Nations, did not so much as bat an eyelash towards Rwanda, as a result, 800,0 lives were lost. Sudan is currently undergoing the same situation as Rwanda and all I've heard from America is cheap talk and no action. Clearly, they are not a country capable of leading the world.

I found the mention of the two world wars quite comical considering the late entrances and most of the work being done by the European forces. I'm not denying U.S significance in the world wars, but I would like to point out that they joined both wars late and this proved to be a catalyst for to cold war.

I really wanted to zoom in on the United States and the constant troubles they face, but frankly, I'm too lazy and think I've already proved my point. America does not have the quality to lead the world, and the main reason I think, is that they're selfish. Every international action done by this "democratic" country is motivated by self interest under the pretense of "fighting for democracy. They truly do "butt in" where they are not needed and the reason that they have been allowed to get away with it because they are a superpower and they use propaganda and play the victim. The world criticizes the Americans, but those petty criticisms have not removed America from the light.
ShadowOTE chapter 2 . 6/3/2008
I tend to agree with the vast majority of your points. Frankly, I'm tired of the US having to go in, clean up other people's messes, and get yelled at for either not doing enough (especially when no-one else is even attempting to help, let alone coming close to matching our assistance) or being imperialistic war-mongerers. While I can't say I'd particularly like to see the US take over the world, as you said, we already clean up so many of the messes created by other countries that we might as well just save ourselves the time and trouble by taking them over.

You also raise several interesting points, particularly regarding how few democratic governments there are that function like the US. While there are those that attempt to emulate the US, very few of them ever succeed. Using your criteria for analyzing governments, I doubt there are more than a handful of countries that have democratically elected officials at all levels like the US.

Regarding the issue of the liberals in the US, a few years ago someone gave me a very interesting tidbit to chew over. During the Cold War, the Soviets had a list of objectives to achieve. I haven't looked into it much, and I'm not sure what book he read about it in, but one of their items was to effectively liberalize the US political parties, presumably to institute socialist and communist ideals.

Sadly, they seem to have succeeded in this. All you need to do is take a look at the attempts to move to a more socialistic approach to health care and welfare. The end result? The social security program, origionally designed to help single, pregnant mothers, the disabled, and individuals over 65 (which, at the time, was the age of DEATH, not retirement) is now essentially a pension plan for anyone retired, poor, or a minority. And they want to do the same for healthcare!

Frankly, as powerful as the US economy may be, these programs are killing us. The people who benefit the most are those that don't even pay to support it, while those who do pay are unable to benefit. Socialism, anyone? What's worse is that the liberals actually consider this a GOOD thing!

As you said, America is a battlefield of ideas (a powerful quote indeed, and one that I intend to remember for future reference). Our diversity gives us choices, but too much diversity can be just as bad as too little. Affirmitive action, differentiating by racial, ethnic, or cultural origin, and other politicially correct (ahem, LIBERAL) ideas may sound good on paper, but they ironically excaberate the problems and drive a wedge between the people in America.

Continuing along the lines of diversity, I saw a study recently that looked into how decisions are made. Interestingly, its conclusion could be summed up as the fact our strength in decision making as humans comes not from our diversity of ideas, but from our ability to pick the BEST option FROM those ideas. As you said, diversity may not be a bad thing, but it is not necessarily a good thing either. If you ever add another update or review response, I'd be interested to see your take on this.
Shugotenshi47 chapter 2 . 6/2/2008
Wow this is really good stuff. I really feel like you gave your point and then gave your response to others well. I agree about that crap FDR pulled during WW to the Japanese-Americans. Even the FBI chief didn't like it. A world ruled by America sounds really nice right now. I wonder though if America is so arrogant what do you call all those Chinese and Koreans I know that live in the US but claim that China/South Korea is the best freaking country on Earth when South Korea started out as a dictatorship and is depended on the US to keep North Korea out and China which is still a Communist dictatorship. Again I agree with you I feel like the US's system would be the best for the world over all.
Rian Yi chapter 2 . 12/28/2007
It's OK if you're proud of your country. But, think about people from other countries. No-one wants to be ruled completely by someone else's government. And what about the different cultures and people and languages and customs? For instance, if you're a Chinese, you want a government whose CHINESE, because its their right, since its their country. And that comment about running over college students is totally unfair. People are allowed to make mistakes and learn from them. Every country in the world has made horrible mistakes. How about the way your country used to treat the "black people"? How about the way the Australians treat the Aborigines, who were there first?

So, everybody's country is the best in their opinion. Like everybody's religion is best in their opinion. Nobody's opinion should be called silly or stupid or irrelevant, because that's what they think. I'm not calling your opinion stupid either. You have a right to love your country and think that its the best one to rule the rest. But you should be careful of the feelings of others.
sacredstorm chapter 1 . 12/28/2007
Let me see... Why not you? How about this: Why not my country then, or England, or Pakistan for that matter! No one deserves to rule the world, and anyway, how do you know that your country is not just as riddled with corruption than mine? How do you know that your elections aren't just popularity contests, like any high school election? And may I remind you, if the United States does declare the rest of us the enemy, they would be in huge trouble, economically, as well as in the millitary sense. The U.S is strong, I'll give you that, but can you take on the whole world and win? Because I'm sure a lot of people wouldn't want to go back to the medieval days of "I wanna rule the whole world because it gives me power" or "If I'm in charge, everyone will live happily ever after" empire-inspired dobes.

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate America, but what you are trying to say is totally inapropriate!
audsome chapter 2 . 8/5/2007
I want to begin with a little anecdote.

A teacher going over Cuba's history with Castro as its leader, we watched a few interviews with him, learned a few things about the developments under his control. She informed us that Cuba's health care increased because of him and other things that he did. She showed up a tape of some Cubans who rallied for him (I'm sure there are those who oppose him, and I'm sure there are some who still don't receive adequate health care, but this sounds just like the U.S.)

My whole classes exclaimed in the end "Man, we should have succeeded in assassinating him!" and other quotes just like this. They went on a tirade on how 'evil' he is. But did she not say that he made improvements for Cubans? He didn't do things 'our way', but was he trying to make improvements?

I took a stand (maybe not one I believed in, but they need someone to knock them over the head, and tell them to think broader.) I was one against 37 others. But that would not deter me from saying "leave him alone!" I repeated what she said and made a whole argument against U.S. interference and assassination attempts against Castro (he's immortal, duh! or an identical quadruplet). And something about the economy, it was too long ago that I can't remember all of my argument.

But the thing that got me and my teacher the most was that their response was "You must hate America! You are not saying American things. You hate apple pie. Those are not American views! Leave America if you think this way!" How stupid they are! It is my right as an American to think however I want, to say something that is not accepted by the majority. Indeed, many couldn't understand this concept either but class ended before I could explain freedom of speech and other rights that allowed me to voice my 'thoughts'.

My speech made a whole lot more sense, its just been too long. And I didn't agree with everything he does, just the things my Teacher said he was improving, however gradual. The speech isn't what is important, nor is whatever I was defending.

Why is this relevant? Because I agree wholeheartedly with you, silly! You are American. Speak your mind! Be proud! America IS the right idea, some are just too scared to be bold and run with it. Granted, we do need to clean up some of our systems before we go global.
huh chapter 1 . 6/27/2007
Uh Swarski your comment:

"I started thinking about what would happen if America was in charge. Other countries might complain about how their traditions and religions would be suppressed. Some people probably would be moody about it and react violently, but not most. I would invite those countries to log onto the internet or open a history book (but I don't trust those much...where I'm from they're way out of date...) and see about what the U.S. did for the Native Americans (as you pointed out). They let them keep their cultures and gave them their own land!"

is kind of funny as if the countries opened up history books to see what the Americans did to the Native Americans, they would be more upset. Lets see, the settlers and their descendents forced the Native Americans off their own land and into small amounts of land were many of them died in the forced march(Trail of Tears anyone?), killed many of them, denonced them as "savages" and tried to convert them to Christianity. Yeah thats REALLY kind of them. In case you can't tell the last sentence was sarcasm. I think you need to brush up on your history of the USA.
kind-of scared reveiwer chapter 2 . 4/26/2007
Oh great, you are continuing this. Firstly the statment "the BEST reviews are the ones that make the AUTHOR look good." is kind of odd when the little writing below the says that critique is sometimes needed. Maybe you should pay attention to that. Also about calling brianhalo3 a elitist isnt that hypocritical as I don't see YOU saying that there is another side of the belief that you are adressing! Also I hate the fact you are acting like USA is the best country. Firstly USA has its faults, and secondly you are making the rest of us Americans look bad. Yep, I am a American so there is no trying to say that my country is bad. Please stop this, as you can tell from the name I am using for reveiwing, you are seriously scaring me with the talk of world domination things. People are free to think what they want and for someone who says they don't like the rumors that American people want to take over the world you are proving them. Leave the other people in the world alone, they shouldn't have to submit to your is entitled to think how they want, if the other countries wouldn't like your idea there is no reason to try to force them to accept it.
