I have to admit, seeing Desmond a little tipsy is pretty fun. Finally, some one can mouth off to Mrs. Hastings and have an excuse for it!

And Caleb is such a sweetheart here. It was so endearing to have him have to sit there and watch Isabella from the other side of the room and try not to be jealous. I wonder what Mr. Hastings is saying to him, though. Are they possibly having that little talk fathers and suitors have to have eventually?

Please! I want that to be it.

Whoa! Let's cut to the chase:

Chapter 27: Ah, I missed your writing style during my long absence, LOL. It's just a very nice read. Things appear to be very complicated (and intriguing, mostly!) between Desmond and Madeleine. Obviously something significant is holding them back from declaring their love on the highest hill! Very curious to know what it is. Plus: 'twas a close one with Isabella and Caleb. Whew...

Chapter 28: Ah, Isabella! I just love her character. And your scenes always play out quite nicely; poor Audrey vomiting into grass and all!

Chapter 29: Oh dear, how complicated it would get if Audrey really were pregnant. The prospect that an illegitimate child would be the final straw that breaks the relationship between Adam and his father - that made me sad! I'm always attached to your characters. And why did Adam have to dash off just then?

Chapter 30: Family matters... that Caleb defended Adam says something about their relationship. And Colonel Weatherly! How deep you are! Some insecurities and regret there. Kudos to you! And poor Audrey...

Chapter 31: See, it *would* be sad if Caleb had to alienate himself from Adam. I mean, the latter is not perfect, but nevertheless! I still like Mr. Hastings. Plus: the tension between Desmond and Adam - loving it. I got the feeling that Desmond wanted to throw Adam right out.

In all, much has developed. New conflicts and issues and all! As if the issue of getting Caleb and Isabella together weren't enough. Loving every bit; I'm curious to know how it all comes down. Keep writing, now!

The plot thickens! Good lord! What is Mr. Hastings up to? What're are Adam and Audrey going to do? Is Caleb going to ask Isabella to marry him? So many plot threads, so little time! And, 'since those who do not complain are never pitied', do please pity me when I BEG for another chapter? Pretty please?

I have to say once again, I love Mr. Hastings... But I don't really understand how he was reacting to Caleb. Does he like Caleb? Approve of him? Not really care? Just enjoying that his wife is going to be annoyed?

It's really interesting how Caleb is reacting to all of this turmoil. He, perhaps, can feel for Audrey more than anyone else in this story, because he knows what its like to be her. As he was thinking in this chapter, his mother went through the same thing.

Great chapter! I like Desmond's protective streak. He's my fave character so far.

Can't wait to read more.

does adam really love audrey? i still feel terrible for caleb's suspicioins towards his friend and isabella. but then again a major secretis being hidden by Desmond, Madeline, and Isabella that he doestn know so i guess its undersandable. update sooN!
