This is a great message to girls. I've always hated the way girls act. It's so stupid. And it's true, girls are girls. We *should* grow closer to each other. I liked this up until the last sentence, though. "boys are all about the sex and body". I'm sorry, but why do girls hate boys so much? Honestly, boys are so much better than girls. I mean, they get this rep for being horny bastards, and some are, but for the most part they're all complex, interesting people who are usually a heck of a lot better people than girls usually are. Eh, this explains why I have more guys friends than girl friends. So much for being a lesbian. Anyways, I've gone off on my own little rant now. I just had to voice my opnion that that part of the last sentence was untrue and unfair; other than that, great essay. D

I agree. It's not quite as bad for me 'cause I'm fat, so most people don't really care and are nice to me. So yeah. Girl power!

This is wonderful! Finally, I've found an essay on this site that isn't pompous and arrogant and rude...you are definitely right about this. Especially since I'm a naturally jealous person, I partake in this "secret competition" as much as I can. To alleviate my envy, emnity, or whatever it is that I feel toward other women, I often compliment them. You're right again; it does make one feel better. For whatever reason, I've always been much nicer to females than males...probably because I understand what we all endure as girls and women. Thank you so much for writing this!

I LOVE it. I absolutely adore this. You are like 100% right, on the dot. I dont do the comparision thing, but I do look at the other girls I walk by, but I dont think evil thoughts or anything, I'm just like, wow she's pretty or, I wish I looked like her. I DO however, critisize girls who dress in skimpy clothing. It just annoys me I guess...

i agree...and i find it funny that you mentioned the thing of randomly smiling at someone when you lock gazes with them cause it really does make the other person smile...a weird thing happened to me last week i was in the car with my mom and she said something i thought was funny so i started laughing and i had a big smile on my face. i look at the car next to me, with the smile still on my face mind you, and i meet the eyes of the guy in that car and the funny thing is he smiles back...that ofcourse made me laugh harder... humans are a weird creation...

wow, i like it. so much truth here. and yes, i do that too *blush* you're right about opening up to people and saving premature judgement, although sometimes you really have to admit that some girls are sl*ts, i mean, when you see them every day at school or at work and watch their interactions (no, not stalk, just notice) you can usually tell when they're being genuine or fast. of course, some girls really are just built better :) i totally agree with the different sizes issue though. i myself do feel insecure at times and i'm forever criticizing my body-even though im not motivated enough to do anything about it :) you're right on target with the mall-cruisin too. i do it, i know other girls do it, and although it makes me feel self-concious every now and then, i'm pretty comfortable with myself. i mean, if you think about it, theres really no point in being bothered by other people's criticism. if the one judging doesn't know you, then their opinion is most likely inaccurate anyways. in which case, you're still right :) the "competition" really is stupid. so thanks for putting this out in the open. not many people even realize that this is happening and some people dont care, but it's nice to know that there are people who DO notice, and DO care enough to make a conscious decision to talk to someone before judging.

Good things to think about. I completely agree. It does work - the compliments, the friendliness. I hate judgements, too, and it's so hard to get out of a state of mind you've been in for half your life, but it's possible. Just wanted to tell you I'm trying, too. Thanks for using your voice and saying things some people are afraid to share. :)

I have to admit I have an instinctive disgust for all the girls who dress to show of cleavage and legs. I understand that they are insecurew but they still are tarts.
