Spot on! Here's how I understood the poem: the norms dictated by the media is what kills us. It kills our sense of individualism and we are shoved with an "empty" culture that forces us to conform for the sake of a collective conscious of a dumbed down society.

Ah, the evils of eating disorders and problems with the fake beauty of the world, I believe. This poem is dripping with melancholy, the sort where there is only nothing-empty, as you described. Great job, lovely.
