Reviews for Spoil the Vote
Electra Fairford chapter 1 . 1/14/2004
Put an X next to his name.
He votes for you.
He tries to vote as you would vote
So maybe you'll put an X there again.
Put an X next to his name.
If you vote apathy,
He'll vote for the people who did, and
They may be idiots.
Put an X next to his name.
Heh. Point taken, but there are some merits to the representative system. True democracy entails every citizen defeating apathy enough to read several thousand pages of budget appropriations bill in a few days, moreover to understand such and argue it intelligently. The representative democracy system does not work perfectly, but it does work well. What is really needed is for people to quit voting apathy and take some interest in their government. Write letters about the things that concern you; vote for people who will vote on most things as you would. Or we could all split into autonomous communes with true democracy and petty trade squabbles against neighbors. True democracy doesn't tend to work on a scale larger than a town of ten thousand or so.
Oh and, good poem.
