|Reviews for Date|
| Manuel Fajar chapter 1 . 2/28/2006
Somewhere in the distant past I recall,
Dressing in a tux for a formal ball,
Going to my girlfriend's sorority,
To wait for her at the spiral staircase;
This was Boston, and I should have known,
That in the era of free love no one,
Could display a completely shaven head;
So when in her beautiful gown she peeked,
Gingerly down down the upstairs landing,
Beautiful as a dream of gossamer;
And, I devonair removed my black hat,
In a courtly, gentlemanly gesture;
Her shriek shouldn't have surprised me at all,
Or, her sudden turn and run to her room,
Or, her locked door and not answering calls;
That no one, friend or foe could talk to her,
Should not have come as quite a shock to me,
But then, I've never been real sensitive,
And, more's the price I pay for knowing less;
It took a week or more for her to say,
Quite plainly and without any regret,
She'd never date me as long as she lived,
Even if I was the last man on earth;
Her impact was so clear to me that day,
I understood we'd never have made it,
As for the ball it was quite an event,
Since no one else had a full head of skin,
Most of the girls found the curiosity,
A lot of fun to pet and laugh about,
Today reading your poem I sit and grin,
At how obstreperous a date can be;
In any case fate's irony was played,
For early I got male pattern baldness,
Fully developed in just one year's time,
And, my lovely friend, she got married soon,—
To a plumber who was staid and sure lead.

I really liked this, very different from anything else that I have read on this site. I loved the last stanza. Keep up the good work!

Sad. Creative, though. Nicely expressed. Makes a male feel kinda bad.

That's so beautiful. I hate it when that happens! GRR! Boys can be so stupid. Anyway, my favorite part was 'Hours later in the same space,
Still waiting and looking perfect,
Except the mascara running down your face.' It all flows very nicely and is a great poem. Keep it up! -
