kipster chapter 4 . 10/4/2008
This is kind of weird for me...

Cause, get this, my cousin's name is Matthew Michael *insert last name which isn't McCorway*. It's weird cause I know he's totally not like that haha.

I like the story, it's good.
honey splattered brains chapter 4 . 6/2/2007
I usually LOVE long stories. But this one is WAY TO LONG! You make it like. 50,0 words! A PAGE!

Wayy to long. But it's still good.

Raomina chapter 13 . 3/5/2006
Hiya, I just wanna tell you that you made a mistake in this chapter. When you said 'pull a Da Vinci and cut off my ear', are you referring to Van Gogh instead?
greenday-luver chapter 22 . 2/5/2006
Wow good story,I really liked was better then alot of the crap i've been reading for not making the end crapy like so many people tend to do. I hope you write another story soon.
Zee chapter 22 . 7/21/2005
FYI, Lacey and her family wouldn't have to pay for a lawyer. In criminal cases (murder, rape, assault, theft, etc), the government assigns council and pays the trial costs, because the crime is considered to be against society. That's why criminal cases are "The People vs. OJ Simpson" or "The People vs. Scott Peterson."

In this situation, Lacey would be nothing more than the key witness. She could not decide whether to pursue the matter or not, the penalty sought, or any say in the sentencing of the defendant. Once it becomes a criminal case, it would be out of her hands.

Defendants can either hire their own lawyer, or the court will provide one. If crime victims had to pay for their own prosecutors, we'd be overrun with criminals.

Civil cases, like "That guy dented my truck and I want him to pay to have it repaired," are about financial reparation for damages done. Both sides hire their own lawyers (or defend themselves), and can win only money.

Criminal cases have to be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. Civil cases only need to prove that the offense "probably" took place.

The case of the burned girl's family vs Lacey's father would have been civil. It's possible that her parents tried to make it into a criminal case, but since the accused was dead and since it was unwinnable (they had no evidence), they would have tried to sue Lacey's family for damages done: a wrongful death suit, perhaps hospital bills, and compensation for emotional suffering.

After Lacey's criminal case, she could have a civil suit against Candy's family to pay for the hospital bills, and then she would have to pay for a lawyer. But there is something called the "Victim Compensation Act" which should be able to help her without resorting to that.

All this can be gleaned by watching a few episodes of "Law and Order" (the original series with Sam Waterson and Jerry Orbach). Good story.
DuchessYappingDog chapter 22 . 5/24/2005
This story is really good overall. The only thing missing from the epilouge is what happened to Bryce. Hahahaha. He was a major key player in their relationship, too.
Shez chapter 22 . 4/6/2005

UMMM chapter 13 . 1/10/2005
Van Gogh cut off his ear not Da Vinci
BKGal-24 chapter 2 . 12/9/2004
Okay...took me awhile to warm up to this story with the switching point of views. But...now I'm intrigued with all the secrets Lacey holds. She's so vague...and when she says "beat up" did she get into a lot of chick fights with Candace or something? And people dumping their problems on her, poor girl. I knew someone like that in high school, she ended up with an ulcer. Anyway, look forward to reading more. Oh...and Matt not remembering what happened? guys suck. I once kissed a guy, and he didn't even remember either. Oi...
Kinara chapter 22 . 11/16/2004

murky chapter 22 . 11/3/2004
hey!
Wow, it's over. (again, yes, good stress reliever after a relatively horrible English paper.) I guess I do like the way you've finished the story. I just think that maybe if you wanted to, you could fit in a few chapters concerning the trial (okay, that would clash with your Epilogue). It'd show further development/strengthening of Matt and Lacey's relationship I think. haha. I think it's kind of sad that we never really get to know Annie! She seems like a very spunky, decent girl. Welldone on finishing your story. heh. and getting so many reviews too )
