You had two very good points! About the "Chocolate brown curls" and "Jet black hair". I noticed that two and meant to change it, but forgot. Oops!
As for the sixteen/seventeen years. Her father died seventeen years ago, and her mother dies a year later, sixteen years ago. Sorry that was so confusing!
