Reviews for The Raven: Next Morning
underreigns chapter 1 . 11/14/2005
I am enamored by this. Considering I used Poe's "The Raven" in 9th grade as a poetry study, and memorized it in totality- I know this poem inside and out. There were a few places your rhyme scheme was off:

"*Sleepily*, I quit my study, all my thoughts disturbed and muddy,

Clutching still at *vestiges* of what I thought I did abhor,"

I dont believe those two astericked words fit all that well. This is more so a problem with vestiges. It may have fit in your head, but if the reader has to search for the rhyme its not very good. Sleepily may just be an on-off beat issue.

"Whispers that accused abandonment with each new mighty roar,"

Also, too many syllables in that line for it to flow properly.

"But a vision stopped my blinking, into both eyes did it bore,"

i think you broke the on-off beat with this line too.

It's a really amazing poem. I wouldnt critique if it weren't worth it. Just a few picky things. And an amazing after thought, might I add, to Poe's original work. He'd be honored.

first off, thanks for the review of Bleeding !Second, I loved this poem. It makes so much sense that it begins to confuse you, or at least to me it does. That's an awesome trait in one's writing. I could see everythin perfectly in my mind, and almost feel like I was the one thinking these thoughts. AWESOME.

Ah, 'The Raven.' Amazing poem, and I really admire you for creating such an awesome continuation of it. It's highly believable that yes, this IS what happened. You did an excellent job on this - the flow, rhythm, rhyme were all extremely well done, and the development throughout is brilliant.

And I love the ending, by the way _

ROCKIN'!This is really cool, Hershey. I've always loved the poem "The Raven", and the distinctive style and rhyme scheme comes through very strongly. Also, the language is somewhat archaic and the rhyme is unconventional, just like Poe would do, which heightens the sense that you're reading something that Poe actually wrote. As with all your poetry, Hershey, this leaves me completely in awe. Keep it up._Ahrar
