The entire second paragragh was amazing, especially the last sentence. And your description of the rebirth of the planet reminded me of The Starlight Crystal by Christopher Pike.

I love the dark and witty feeling at the end, the sense that all is repeated in a circular motion and that it will always be that way; perfection and closure will always be a cycle away.
