I agree fully. My school says the pledge every morning, and many people don't say the pledge, risking detention and more for how they feel. I think you have a really good head on your shoulders for writing this.

I agree. Patriotism isn't patriotism if it's for any reason other than loving your country. I'm often considered "unpatriotic" but I do so many patriotic things - not out of pressure, not to try and create an image, but because I honestly want to do them, like voting and community service. So say the pledge because you mean it, and if you don't mean it, don't say it. If/when you do, it will mean far more that way.
