Crystal chapter 1 . 5/6/2006 I love this! I've never read the screwtape letters, mainly because I am a new fan of C.S. Lewis. I have loved The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe ever since the FIRST movie came out.. I mean them ovie that not many people know about: the old one that is kinda corny and doesn't have special effects. I still loved it when I watched it, and since the new one has been in theatres, I decided to read the Chrinocles of Narnia. I got two Narnia posters before it ever came out on DVD, and I got the DVD the day it came out. So far, I've only had time to read THE MAGICIAN'S NEPHEW and half of THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE, mainly because I've had to read so many other books for school, and it's hard for me to keep up with two books at once. The only real differences that I have seen so far between the book and the movie are (1) that the witch's Chief of Police's name is Maugrim in the movie, and something else in the book (I don't have the book right in front of me and I don't remember the name), and (2) that they went playing hide and seek at a different time in the book, which corrects the continuity in the story. [In the movie, Lucy goes back into the wardrobe after the others said she was lying, because she wanted to get to Narnia again; although one is only supposed to be able to get into Narnia when they AREN'T looking for it, according to the story. It's a flaw in the sequence of the movie, but it doesn't occur in the book because of the time in which they played hide and seek.] The only other difference so far has only been their word choice; naturally the characters in the movie don't say everything exactly as it is said in the book. Anyway, those are some deep thoughts. Sorry for my tendency to digress; I'm not so sure that it can be helped. Nice work! I'll be finishing the Narnia books during the first part of summer, and then I'll read the Screwtape Letters. PS: I'm writing a research paper on C.S. Lewis for English, and it is due very soon. I have to have ten information sources, ten bibliography cards, thirty notecards, an outline rough draft, and a final rough draft. Miss Tyer isn't making us write the actual paper as had been planned, because we can't realistically get it done before our final exams. Anyway, I only have like six sources. I actually have eight i think, but two of them are stupid and I only have them because I needed to be able to show her eight by the day that she checked; the same is true of the mere fifteen notecards that I have right now. Over half are ones that are stupid and won't be used, and I only used them so I'd get the daily grade when she checked for them. Any sources, information, or advice you could give me would be useful. Please feel free to email or IM me. My email is and my AIM screen name is CrystalLouBob, but please don't give anyone that SN, because it is my personal one and very few people have it. The one I give to everyone (for like, public use I guess) is goofyangelngreen. You could also just omment in my livejournal, since you're one of my LJ friends. I just am not on it that often; but then again I'm not online at all that often. |
iknowthethirdthingaboutpoetry chapter 1 . 4/4/2006 I would never have guessed this has anything to do with The Screwtape Letters had you not mentioned the title in the summary and in the beginning. It's nice that some people actually care for the messages attached and spend some time thinking about them. I think I enjoyed the book mainly because I thought the uncle was funny, nothing more. |
