Reviews for Rough Rider |

![]() ![]() ![]() I only read some of the story while being in college and find this interesting. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Being a life-long Burroughs fan, interested deeply in the history of the rough riders during the war with Spain, and being an admirer of Teddy Roosevelt, I had to read this story. In short, I loved it. Hopefully Burroughs will still have written such greats as Tarzan and The Land That Time Forgot? Best of Luck, J.A. Fletcher |
![]() ![]() ![]() Clearly in the Alternate Universe you have dreamed up here, the cast members have birth and/or death dates quite different from the ones we know. This was an original and compelling story concept that could easily be expanded to novel length. Well done. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Good job-that's a pretty nice story you have there. The idea is very 'Starship Troopers'-and I enjoyed that film, so that's a compliment ;)-and the 1800's setting is a refeshing backdrop to the usually futuristically-set 'man vs huge bugs' theme. I loved the bit at the end where the tanks came in, and the characters didn't know what to make of them becuase that was the first time they'd ever seen them. Perhaps you could form a series of short stories that detial the events leading up to the war, and maybe do some sort of apocalyptic 'what if?' thing set in the future (or modern-day) where the Undergoers win the war...? I know it might not be a very appealing idea if you want to keep this as a short one-shot tale, but it's there to use if you want. Overall, it was a pretty good little story. Nice stuff. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Ha, crazy story, but very upbeat...well done. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Top-notch, I say, throwing in all of those famous names and combining it with brave young men fighting (and in this instance losing) to the Foe during the Victorian period. Seems like a reimagining of some kind of Victorian scientific romance, except for the whole 'protagonists being annihilated' part. |
